Buongiorno Rome!
June 4th, 2009 by Jennifer.SimpsonFlight Centre’s Jennifer Simpson travels to Rome, Italy and blogs vacation and holiday ideas including touring the historical city of Roma, people watching at one of the many cafes and restaurants, and the various hotels.
I just returned from Rome, Italy and it was amazing. I flew with Air Canada on one of their new aircraft with the seat back TV’s and it was an incredible experience. Being able to choose from the most current movies is fantastic when you are on a long flight and it definitely makes the time go faster.
Rome itself is a great city with lots of history. It’s really easy to get around and the historical sites are all pretty close to each other. You can take a Hop-on Hop-off tour which can be purchased for one or two days, and it’s a wonderful way to get around for a reasonable price. By doing the tour you’ll be able to see the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Vatican City, and more within those two days. Make sure you take some good walking shoes as the streets are cobblestone and you will definitely need some comfort for your feet.
You will find lots of cafes and restaurants to stop at and enjoy some pizza or pasta and rest your feet for bit. It was really nice to just sit, people watch, and have some great food as well.
There are lots of hotels to choose from and my favorite was the Intercontinental De La Ville. It has an amazing location at the top of the Spanish Steps and the best view of Rome. At night, it’s beautiful to see the entire city, all lit up, from the Intercontinental De La Ville terrace. The Hotel Napoleon has a great location and is a good value. The Crown Plaza was my next favorite; gorgeous and an amazing garden area with a pool. Not many Rome hotels have pools but the Crown plaza does and it’s open in May. If you are looking for somewhere where you can relax after sightseeing this is the best spot. I also stayed at the Mercure Roma Corso Trieste which was nice and a little out of the city. It had a really pleasant terrace where we ate a hearty breakfast every morning. The NH Vittorio Veneto was very modern, pretty well located and it seemed like it was out of the way, although, within few minutes you were right in the city centre. We had lunch at the NH Vittorio Veneto and the food was great.
Rome really was a fantastic city; everyone needs to go at least once.
Chao!
