Bula! Doin it Fiji style on Denarau
January 29th, 2010 by Monique Baggaley
Flight Centre’s Monique Baggaley travels to Denarau, Fiji in the South Pacific and blogs about her vacation adventure.
This was my first trip to the South Pacific and with such beautiful blue waters, and friendly people it will definitely not be my last! I travelled to Fiji with a friend, and right from the time we boarded the Air Pacific plane the Fijian flight crew made us feel welcome.
I stayed on the man-made island of Denarau, only a 20 minute drive from the airport, and although the waters may not be as clear as the outer islands the amazing resort pools and facilities more then made up for this. We stayed at the Sheraton and the buffet breakfasts kept us going for a whole day full of activities such as: swimming, tennis, golf, sea kayaking and sailing catamarans. Although I didn’t take to the local beer, Fiji Bitter, I enjoyed many a cocktail at the resorts swim up bar.
What I liked best about staying in Denarau is that you can use the facilities of all the other resorts on the Island (Westin, Hilton, Radisson, etc) and can easily get around the island by taking the free “Bula Bus“. This free bus will even drop you at the Marina in Denarau so you can enjoy day trips to the outer islands to snorkel or dive in the amazing clear waters, or to take a sunset dinner cruise. The best meal I had on my trip was at the Westin, and because it was my birthday I splashed out and had a whole lobster at the restaurant right on the beach. Vinaka (Thank-you) Fiji, for showing me what an incredible island destination you are!
The island of Denarau, Fiji is highlighted on the Fight Centre travel map.
