I embarked on a Japan Airlines flight from Vancouver to Tokyo nonstop on April 3rd 2009. After a comfortable 9 hour flight I was in Tokyo, Japan just a short time later. What an amazing place!

It took about 1 hour by train to get in to the city as the airport is located outside of Tokyo. This gave me a chance to see the country side as well as the greater Tokyo area.

My first impression of Tokyo? Spotless! Not a piece of garbage in sight. This is pretty remarkable since there are about 30 million people that live in the greater Tokyo area. These people are some of the friendliest I have come across in my travels.

Joelle Kolb Japanese Tea HouseI had the opportunity to see many of the sights in Tokyo. This included beautiful Japanese Gardens which during Cherry Blossom season (early April) are some of the best views the city has to offer. Tokyo tower stands tall, Harajuku shopping is some of the trendiest out there, and the Tokyo transit system is an experience of its own. Some more traditional adventures included a stop at a Japanese tea house, a prayer at a Japanese Buddhist temple, and a sushi class.

Overall my experience in Japan was fantastic and I was so pleased with the kindness of the people. It was a comfortable experience and has so much to offer to any traveler.

Tokyo, Japan is highlighted on the Flight Centre travel map.
