I was one of the lucky Flight Centre staff from across Canada to join in on the Air Canada Vacation to Rome, Italy in early May. I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother’s Day present then that. We flew Air Canada direct and couldn’t have asked for a better flight. I loved the new touch screens on the back of the seats and got caught up on all my movies.

We arrived in Rome on Friday and stayed at the Mercure Roma Corso Trieste for the three nights. I have been to a lot of hotel across Europe and found this to be one of the largest rooms I ever stayed in. It was a little out of the city centre but accessible by metro very easily.

In the afternoon we visited two properties of the Mercure chain the Bologna and the Colosseo. The Colosseo had a beautiful roof top patio with an outdoor pool overlooking the Colosseum.

After, Air Canada Vacations set up a chef’s table at the local wine bar down from the Spanish Steps. This was my favourite part as the restaurant served up local cuisine with pairings of wine to match.

Saturday was a full day and we toured 10 hotels. It might sound like a busy day but all the hotels we saw were very special in their own way. Hotel Napoleon was a very quaint family run property located in central Rome. We saw all the NH Hotels including NH Leonardo Da Vinci, NH Giustiniano, and NH Vittorio Veneto where we had lunch and wine. Then off to the Grand Hotel Beverly Hills and Crowne Plaza Rome St. Peters which was like a resort in the old city. We saw the St. Regis and the Westin where all the stars stay and lastly the Intercontinental de la Ville which has one of the most beautiful views of the city in all of Rome. This hotel was one of my favourites as it has a roof top patio overlooking the old city and in the far distance you could see Vatican City lit up. This hotel hosted a roof top patio reception where the wine and food just kept coming.

Sunday was Mother’s Day and we had a free day to do whatever – although there was a planned historical walking tour of Rome which was absolutely beautiful. We learned about the history and architecture of ROME and of course I will return to Rome because I threw my coin into Trevi Fountain. The afternoon was spent people watching at a nearby café.

Monday it was time to pack up and go home. It was another enjoyable flight, I really had a good time on this vacation and would highly recommend everyone to one day see ROME.

Rome, Italy is highlighted on the Flight Centre travel map.
