A Social Media Success for Travel
February 17th, 2012 by Alicia TaggioYesterday we teamed up with the Toronto Travel Massive and G Adventures to bring together people from all aspects of the travel industry for a Social Media Week event called ‘Getting Serious About Travel Blogging‘. Our very own Canadian bloggers and Flight Centre friends Journeywoman and The Planet D spoke on the panel, along with representatives from all aspects of the industry representing tourism boards, PR agencies, travel brands and online publications.
With over 120 people in attendance and people tuning in from all over the world by following the hashtag #SMWTOTravel on Twitter, a truly fantastic discussion took place about how brands and bloggers can work together and how we can move forward together as an industry.
We were pleasantly surprised to discover our event was a trending topic in Canada last night with over 3 million impressions and 1,000 tweets. People from around the world tuned in to take part in the discussion and share their views on the travel blogging industry and how social media is changing the way we as consumers share our travel experiences.
We gave attendees at the event a chance to win $1000 worth of free travel by tweeting out a photo of their bucketlist destination for 2012.

Congratulations to Olga Valentin for being selected as the winner! She plans to use the vouchers towards a trip to Turkey! A fantastic destination choice full of great food and culture.

Olga is booking her trip to Turkey as we speak, so stay tuned as we follow her adventure! To stay posted on future events, join the community by following us on Twitter or joining us on Facebook.
