According to the intergovenmental panel on climate change, almost every form of motorized travel produces carbon emissions with air travel the fastest growing contributer.
With operators around the world looking to cut carbon emissions, switching to renewable fuels is a hot industry topic. Eight US-based airlines as well as Air Canada and Lufthansa have signed letters of intent with Solena Fuels to use the company's biomass derived jet fuel. Low emission fuel producer Neste Oil recently showcased its renewable aviation fuel at the Paris Air Show and commercial use of the fuel on aircraft is due to begin in late 2012. The days of flipping through in-flight magazines will likely soon be a thing of the past as airlines opt for a digital alternative. Singapore Airlines already has a head start transferring its three in-flight publications to its onboard entertainment system. Stripping the weight of hundreds of hard copies helps save on fuel and cuts the environmental cost of producing them. Have a great trip.
