Air China and is the second largest commercial carrier in China

China has incredible sights to see.
China has incredible sights to see.

Air China is owned by the People´s Republic of China and is the second largest commercial carrier behind China Southern Airlines. The carrier is headquartered in Beijing, with major hubs located at Chengdu Shuangliu and Shanghai Pudong International Airports.

There are more than 180 destinations in Air China´s global network spanning Asia, the Middle East, Western Europe and North America, and its customers have countless options for connecting flights because the airline is a partner of the Star Alliance. Canadian customers are able to book flights departing from Vancouver International Airport.

The company recently announced that it would be doubling the amount of flights departing from Vancouver by 2011.

The airline currently operates 260 Airbus and Boeing aircraft in its relatively young fleet, with an average plane age of 7.3 years. It has two subsidiaries - Air China Cargo, a flight logistics company, and Air China Business Jet, a private business aircraft company.

Passengers of Air China are able to build and redeem points for its frequent flyer program, Phoenix Miles, through any of its partners in the Oneworld and Star Alliances, as well as, Air Macau, Alitalia, Avianca, El Al, EVA, Shandonga and Virgin Atlantic airlines.

Phoenix Miles is the first program of its kind in China and features three different membership levels. Silver and Gold card members both receive 25-percent mileage bonuses on certain flights, while a Platinum card earns members 50-percent bonus mileage. As members accumulate points, they can enjoy travel perks and VIP status. Not only can Phoenix Miles members earn points through airlines affiliated with Air China, but hotels, credit card companies, car rental agencies and other partners can award points, as well.

Passengers on first class flights can enjoy newly-designed seating, which offers ample space and little disturbance from neighbors. For entertainment, travelers can choose from hundreds of different movies and games to view on a personal television screen, as well as many audio channels to listen to with a noise-canceling headset. As for meal selection, those who purchase first class airfares can enjoy caviar, soup, seasonal salad, Chinese-style lamb, beef or chicken, ice cream and more.

Business class flights feature their own personal monitor, as well, with personal lighting, a folding work station and a power outlet for laptop connectivity. Air China offers an assortment of delicious meal options for the business traveler, including a fresh fruit plate, ham and chicken soup, marinated vegetables, chicken and beef.
