Rocky Mountaineer - An extraordinary rail journey

Some describe it as a bucket-list item, one of the things you simply must do in your lifetime. You don't know how true that is until you step onboard the Rocky Mountaineer. You would never notice - it's as delicious as if it were served in a five-star restaurant, complete with white linens fine china and fresh-cut flowers. I can hardly wait for the three course lunch of Prime Alberta Beef or fresh Black Tiger Prawns along with local BC wines, garnering a lot of attention in recent years.

Relaxing in our seats and enjoying the panoramic views, we are struck by the change of scenery hour by hour; from lush farmland and coastal rainforest to dry, desert-like conditions in the BC interior. After a refreshing overnight stay in Kamloops, the anticipation is palpable as we travel through various mountain ranges and start climbing into the Rockies. Each hour the mountains grow taller and more dramatic, each corner lends itself to another towering rock wall. The water changes to a beautiful turquoise hue caused from glacial run off as it swirls and crashes through the plunging gorges. Fellow passengers keep a keen eye out for soaring eagles, spawning salmon, grizzly bear or moose.
