Day 1 Bucharest
Welcome to Romania. There are no activities planned for today until 6pm when you will meet your tour leader for an important welcome meeting. Please look for a note at reception informing you of the location of the meeting and please bring along your passport, travel insurance documents and a pen.
After this, you may like to join your leader and fellow travellers for dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 Trekking in the Carpathian Mountains (B, L, D)
In the morning we transfer via Prahova Valley to Moieciu de Jos village where we will be accommodated in a family guesthouse.
We then begin our first day walking – an easy day to prepare your body for the week. Hike in the hilly area between Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountains, also known as the Bran-Rucar corridor. The route passes some of the country’s richest pastoral areas, dotted by shepherds’ huts, altitude single tracks and a wonderful view over two of the most spectacular massifs in the Southern Carpathians – Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. Enroute, we will enjoy a picnic lunch.
In the evening return to our guest house and enjoy a dinner of local specialities.
Today we have approximately 5 hours walking with a 400 – 500 m climb
Approximate travel time: Bucharest to Moieciu de Jos, 3.5 to 4 hours.
Day 3 Transylvania/Bran Castle (B, L, D)
This morning we make our way to Bran village, and enjoy a visit to the infamous Bran Castle. Also known as Dracula’s Castle this beautiful 14th century castle was, renovated in the 19th century by the royal family of Romania.
After leaving the castle, we start climbing by foot towards Magura Village. enjoying a picnic lunch atop a ridge overlooking one of the most picturesque villages in Bran area – Magura. We descend through forests, grazing lands and meadows to the center of this altitude settlement, at about 1100m altitude.
Our dinner and accommodation tonight will in a 3 star pension in Magura village, situated between Bucegi and Piatra Craiului National Parks, with sensational views.
Approximate travel time Moieciu de Jos to Bran, 10 minutes.
Day 4 Trekking in the Carpathian Mountains (B, L, D)
Today is dedicated to trekking in Piatra Craiului (The King’s Rock) National Park - one of the most beautiful mountains in Romania. The Park is very rocky, consisting of a thin high limestone strip, 22 km long, which is considered to is so unusual that it is considered to be a geographical accident of the Southern Carpathians. It is also home of The Carpathian Large Carnivore Project, as, although the Romanian Carpathians cover less than 1.5% of the European surface west of Russia, they are home to almost one third of all European large carnivores: The authorities estimate that the number of bears is over 6,000, that there are about 3,000 wolves, and some 2,000 lynx.
In the evening we return to Magura village where we will find our dinner and accommodation.
Today\'s walking is approximately 5-6 hours trekking, 1100m climb, 900m descent
Day 5 Brasov/Red Lake (B)
This morning, we transfer to Brasov (Kronstadt), one of Transylvania’s major cities. Walking in the medieval centre, one of the best preserved in Romania, we will visit The Black Church, the biggest church between Vienna and Constantinople, the City Council Square, the ramparts erected in medieval times by the Saxon colonists, and one of the narrowest streets in Europe, the Binder Street.
In the afternoon we travel through the land of The Szekely, a Hungarian minority, with their own specific architecture and traditions. You will enjoy stunning scenery and quaint rural villages in this region.
In the evening we arrive at Rosu resort – The Red Lake – situated at about 900 m altitude- where we will spend the evening in a local hotel.

Days 6 Trekking in the Carpathians (B)
On Day 6, we start our trek in Hasmas National Park, mountains with a special charm due to the pastoral life and the ancient rituals surviving here.We climb a steep hill and then, through dark woods often crossed by the numerous bears in the area, we get to the White Meadow, and then, through vast open spaces, to the top, where we reach an altitude of 1797m.
Enjoy excellent views over Eastern Transylvania and the Moldavian Carpathians: white limestone crags, green flat meadows, dotted by little lakes and bordered by dark conifer forests surround us. Numerous sheepfolds shelter at night the semi wild horses and flocks of sheep which roam this land by daylight.
In late afternoon, after a gentle descent, we are transported back to Lacu Rosu (15minutes) where we will spend the evening.
Today\'s trekking time is approximately 6h, (700 m climb)
Day 7 Trekking in the Carpathian Mountains (B)
After breakfast on Day 7, we have a 20 min transfer by car to Sugau Gorges. We start climbing near Sugau valley on a winding path used by locals of
Barnadu, a small isolated village in the mountains above Bicaz
Gorges. We pass by fir-tree forests and reach the meadows surrounding
this tiny hamlet in the mountains. Barnadu contains no more than 20 houses, a school, a church and a bar.
We continue our hike up to Ciurgau Peak where have a 360 degrees view over the Eastern Carpathians. After a picnic lunch we start descending through the meadows and then forest, back again to Bicaz Gorges and from here we have 1 h drive to Piatra-Neamt city.

Day 7 (6-7 h trekking, approx 600 m climb)
Day 8 Bucharest (B)
After breakfast we return to Bucharest where you will be transferred to the airport or back to the starting point hotel.
The travel time back to Bucharest today is approximately 5 hours.
Please do not book any international flights until after 3pm in the afternoon today.
