Day 1 Lima
Get acquainted with Lima, Peru's modern capital. Explore its busy centre or perhaps gain an insight into the country's colourful history at the Museo de la Nacion. Why not celebrate the start of this great adventure with a meal in cosmopolitan Miraflores.
Day 2 Paracas/Ballestas Islands
Discover Paracas. Spanning 335,000 ha, it's considered to be one of the world's most important marine reserves. Watch sea lions and dolphins playing off the coast and spy the plentiful birdlife Paracas is famous for.
Day 3 Nazca
The adventure continues to another popular attraction in Peru, the mysterious Nazca Lines. Take a tour to learn some of the legends of this mysterious region. Perhaps take an optional flight over the etched formations to get a real sense of their scale and intricacy.
Day 4 Puerto Inca
Visit Chauchilla Cemetery, a collection of tombs and skeletons of the Nazca people - some dating from 1,000 AD. Camp overnight in Puerto Inca.
Days 5-6 Arequipa
Visit Peru's glittering 'White City', Arequipa, and take the opportunity to wander around the Santa Catalina Monastery, exploring the mazelike architecture and peaceful courtyards of this huge colonial convent.
Days 7-8 Chivay/Colca Canyon
Travel through arid terrain where llamas, alpacas and wild vicunas graze beneath imposing snow-capped volcanoes. Gaze into the depths of the Colca Canyon and perhaps spot the graceful Andean condor resting on warm air currents high above the canyon floor.
Day 9 Raqchi Homestay
Meet a local family during a homestay in quaint Raqchi. Spend a memorable evening huddled around the fire learning traditional Peruvian songs and dances from newfound friends.
Days 10-11 Cuzco
Accompanied by a local guide, visit the Raqchi Artisan Centre and ruins, then travel to Cuzco to acclimatise and explore the many Baroque churches and ancient temples that dot the city.
Days 12-15 Classic Inca Trail/Quechua Community Trek/Ollantaytambo
Visit the Sacsayhuaman and Pisac ruins, as well as a local market, before driving on to the starting point of the Inca Trail. Put hiking boots on and trek the iconic trail that once linked the Inca Empire. The ancient paths wind around mountains, across high plateaux and through dense cloud forest and temple ruins.
Days 16-17 Machu Picchu/Cuzco
Rise early to discover the ruins of Machu Picchu bathed in the golden morning light. Spend a memorable day in the 'lost Inca city', perhaps hiking to the Sun Gate or braving the steep climb to the top of Huayna Picchu - the views are breathtaking! For those wishing to unwind post-trek, seek out bustling markets and cosmopolitan Cuzco cafes.
Day 18 Puno
Journey to Puno and explore Sillustani's ancient funerary towers and museum with a local guide.
Days 19-20 Lake Titicaca/Copacabana
Cruise Lake Titicaca and visit the Uros Islands - floating towns made entirely of reeds. Farewell Peru and travel into Bolivia. From Copacabana, take a boat trip to Isla del Sol, a historic island known as the birthplace of the Inca civilisation.
Days 21-22 La Paz
Arrive in La Paz where this South American adventure wraps up. Meander along the winding, narrow streets, visiting the many markets dotted throughout this soaring Andean city. For those after the ultimate adrenaline rush, why not join a daring mountain biking adventure on the 'world's most dangerous road'.
