Day 1 Dubai
Arrive in Dubai at any time on day 1. There are no included activities, apart from the group meeting at 6 pm, please, check the lobby for a message from your group leader.
Day 2 Dubai city tour/sand dune 4x4 drive, desert barbeque and overnight camping (B,D)
This morning we enjoy a Dubai city tour. A modern city that provides a new setting at every turn, Dubai mixes the old and the new, the flashy with the traditional. We visit the spice market, fish, fruit and vegetable market and the gold souk. From here we head to the Bastakia area to view the traditional wind towers and the old Fahidi Fort which is today the Dubai History Museum. We will also see the Jumeirah Mosque, an architectural landmark in Dubai and stop beside Burj Al Arab for a photo opportunity. In the afternoon, we set off in 4 wheel drives to the Liwa Oasis. Situated in the south west of Abu Dhabi on the edge of the great Empty Quarter desert (the largest of Arabia), the exhilarating drive over the highest sand dunes in the world is simply a unique and most spectacular experience you will ever encounter. Our journey will take us towards Abu Dhabi, cruising through the multi lane highway passing by Jebel Ali free zone and crossing the borders of Abu Dhabi. The drive continues through tarmac road, sand tracks, along the famous oil pipelines. Once we arrive at Liwa, we will enjoy a fun dune drive before setting up camp. This evening our guide will cook you a mouth-watering BBQ. Please note, toilet facilities will be \"au naturelle\" camping style tonight. Enjoy the emptiness of the desert and watch the night sky decorated by millions of stars! Travel time from Dubai to Liwa: approximately 2 hours
Day 3 Muscat (B)
An early start as we make our way from Liwa to Muscat, and after the immigration and custom formalities at both the borders, exit Dubai and enter The Sultanate of Oman. This afternoon we enjoy a guided visit of Muscat. Our first stop is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque - a remarkable contemporary architectural achievement. Afterwards, we explore the Bait Baranda museum, which showcase the history of Muscat. Visit Old Muscat, surrounded by steep mountains and flanked by twin 16thcentury forts ‘Jalali’ & ‘Mirani’, also see the home of His Majesty the Sultan, the Al Alam Palace. We proceed to Bait Al Zubair Museum which includes traditional Omani weaponry, jewellery, costumes, domestic utensils and recreated urban and rural environments. We then drive through the scenic beauty of the corniche, stopping at Muttrah - the main port & commercial centre, and explore the colorful historic souk. This is a real souk with winding alleys and backstreets and stalls selling all manner of textiles, jewellery, traditional Omani perfumes (bukhoor - made of frankincense), souvenirs and antiques. We overnight tonight in Muscat. Aproximate travel time: Liwa to Muscat, 5 -5.5 hours.
Day 4 Dubai (B)
This morning we proceed to Dubai where you will be dropped at the Starting Point hotel. Muscat to Dubai - 400kms, approximately 4 – 4.5 driving hours Please do not book departure flights before 4pm this evening. We are able to organise accommodation for this evening. Please ask at time of booking.
