Day 1 Addis Ababa
Begin your African adventure with some traditional cuisine and perhaps some local music as you get acquainted with the fun-loving culture. Why not arrive a little early and check out the Ethnological Museum, a fascinating glimpse into Ethiopia's tribal heritage.

Day 2 Lake Abiyata
Head to the crystallised white shorelines of Lake Abiyata, home to vast flocks of flamingos that cover the water in a pink haze. Keep an eye out for fish eagles and a plethora of other birdlife who come to feed on the prolific algae the lake provides.

Days 3-5 Bale Mountains National Park
Drive high to the plateau of the Bale Mountains National Park in search of the Simien fox, perhaps explore the riding trails on horseback. Take time to traverse a varying landscape of exotic moorlands and thick forest, criss-crossed by fast-flowing streams.

Day 6 Wendo Genet
Descend from the mountain tops and relax in the luxurious hot springs of Wendo Genet. Let all your stresses wash away in the warm waters, situated in the centre of the panoramic beauty of Ethiopia's natural landscape.

Day 7 Awassa
Pay a visit to the Awassa Children's Project, which promotes sensible, culturally responsible relief work aimed at assisting children primarily orphaned by AIDS, as well as educating the population about the disease and its prevention. See how the members of the organisation work tirelessly to bring about better healthcare and a higher standard of life for their community.

Days 8-9 Arba Minch
Journey to Arba Minch, a town that boasts glorious views of the two Rift Valley lakes of Abaya and Chamo. Perhaps search for a bargain in the vibrant market or take a boat out on to the lake and glide passed 'crocodile market', where vast numbers of crocs congregate.

Days 10-12 Omo Valley Region
Travel into the Omo Valley to experience local markets full of local produce and handicrafts. Visit multiple completely unique tribes, each with their own histories and traditions.

Days 13-14 Konso
Hugging the banks of the Sagan River, learn of the strong traditions of the Konso people. Tour the local dwellings and shop at the local market, sharing in a way of life passed down through generations.

Day 15 Moyale
Enter Northern Kenya and head straight for the market town of Moyale, where both Kenyan and Ethiopian products can be found in abundance amongst a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.

Day 16 Marsabit
Pass through a black lunar landscape on the way to Marsabit, which lies at the foot of an extinct volcano. Trek through the forests to reach Lake Paradise, a site with a well-deserved name, which is a popular hangout for elephants and buffaloes.

Days 17-18 Samburu National Reserve
Trek into the Samburu National Reserve, a pristine wilderness that is home to a fascinating mix of Kenya's nomadic tribes. Keep an eye out for giraffes, zebras and gerenuks in their natural habitat.

Days 19-20 Naro Moru
Travel to the foot of Mt Kenya and safari through the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to endangered black and white rhinos as well as several members of Africa's Big Five. Keep an eye out for the chimpanzees, this is the only area of Kenya with wild chimps.

Days 21-22 Nakuru National Park
Take a game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park, world-famous for its population of striking pink flamingos. Keep cameras at the ready to get some colourful shots of flocks of birdlife as well as a variety of Africa's better-known wildlife.

Day 23 Lake Naivasha
As one of the only freshwater lakes in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha is able to support floating islands of papyrus reeds and is bordered by flat-topped acacias. Explore these lush green surroundings and discover a substantial population of hippos who frolic in the shallows.

Day 24 Nairobi
Pass by the stunningly dressed Masai tribes, who can often be seen tending to their herds, on the way to cosmopolitan Nairobi. Immerse yourself in the culture and make the most of premium restaurants and a lively bar scene.

Day 25 Gilgil
Head for the small town of Gilgil and make a stop at the Saida Children's Home Project to learn about their work to improve the lives of AIDS orphans. In the afternoon, drop in on a local school.

Day 26 Kericho
Spend some more time mingling with the students before taking an optional tea plantation visit.

Days 27-28 Jinja
Set up camp at near Lake Victoria and prepare for two days of adventure. For adrenaline junkies, why not try some white water rafting.

Day 29 Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Visit Uganda's Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, an important organisation that helps to reintroduce rhinos back into the wild. Join a local ranger and observe these impressive beasts in their natural habitat.

Day 30 Kaniyo Pabidi Forest
Venture to the Budongo Forest for an afternoon of chimpanzee trekking in Kaniyo Pabidi.

Days 31-32 Murchison Falls National Park
Take an afternoon game drive in the delta – home to plenty of elephants, buffalo, giraffes and antelopes.

Day 33 Bush Camp
Head south and camp in the heart of the great outdoors.

Day 34 Queen Elizabeth National Park
Descend into the Great Rift Valley and embark on a game drive through this stunning national park. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, well known for its healthy population of hippos.

Day 35 Lake Bunyonyi
Make tracks to Lake Bunyonyi - home to some of the most picturesque scenery in Uganda.

Days 36-38 Kigali/Ruhengeri/Gorilla trek
Cross into Rwanda, stopping at Kigali for a visit to the moving Genocide Memorial. Continue on to Ruhengeri and make a memorable trek into one of the last remaining sanctuaries of the mountain gorilla.

Day 39 Lake Mburo National Park
Camp on the shores of the stunning Lake Mburo, surrounded by an amazing array of wildlife.

Day 40 Jinja
Travel to Jinja, via Kampala, stopping at the equator. Camp overnight by the riverside.

Day 41 Eldoret
Cross back into Kenya and visit Eldoret – a high altitude retreat that is an ideal training ground for Kenya's endurance athletes.

Day 42 Nakuru National Park
Frolic around a flamingo-filled lake and camp overnight on a dairy farm.

Day 43 Nairobi
Wake early for one last morning game drive before heading back to cosmopolitan Nairobi.

Days 44-46 Nairobi/Masai Mara
Head straight into the wilderness of the Masai Mara. Keep an eye out for prides of lions, herds of elephants and, if you are lucky, a stealthy cheetah or leopard, all of which call the Masai Mara home. After a couple of days game driving, make your way to cosmopolitan Nairobi and soak up the lively restaurant and bar scene.

Day 47 Arusha
Enter Tanzania and head for Arusha, Tanzania's safari capital, located at the base of Mt Meru. Stock up on supplies and perhaps enjoy a traditional meal at one of the many eateries before making your way into the wilds of Africa!

Days 48-49 Serengeti National Park/Ngorongoro Crater
Journey into the wide, open plains of the Serengeti National Park, home to thousands of hoofed animals and fierce predators. Try to spot all of Africa's Big Five on game drives and sleep in the midst of nature, letting the nocturnal sounds of this unique African habitat lull you to sleep.

Day 50 Mto Wa Mbu
The famous Ngorongoro crater is home to more than 30,000 animals including the endangered black rhino, zebras and hippos. Keep cameras handy as you game drive through the heart of this natural wonder. Stop by the small village community of Mto Wa Mbu and get an insight into the traditional African way of life.

Day 51 Marangu
Climb the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro to reach the small village of Marangu, that is situated by the streams that run down form Mt Kilimanjaro's glaciers. Enjoy fantastic views of the mountain and the surrounding countryside.

Days 52-53 Dar es Salaam
Travel south to Dar es Salaam to camp on the beach by the cities outskirts. Stroll along the bustling ports, people watch from the chilled cafes and kick back on the warm sands.

Days 54-56 Zanzibar
Sail to the 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar to explore the winding cobblestone alleyways and fragrant bazaars. Try a deliciously fresh seafood curry and take a guided tour of the inland spice plantations to see where the mouthwatering flavours come from. Spend free time sipping cocktails at seaside bars or relaxing on idyllic sands.

Day 57 Dar es Salaam
Take the ferry back to the African mainland and the cultural hub of Dar es Salaam. Perhaps stay an extra night to make the most of the city's burgeoning nightlife.
