About Air Transat

Since its inaugural flight from Montreal to Acapulco in 1987, Air Transat knew what it wanted to be. The airline carved out an important niche for itself in the competitive Canadian leisure travel landscape and perfected what it set out to do 30 years ago. In 2017, Skytrax had Air Transat second as the World’s Best Leisure Airline, an award they’ve won for the last six years as North America’s Best Leisure Airline.

The French-Canadian carrier is based in Montreal, Quebec, which is also its primary hub. Toronto and Vancouver act as secondary hubs for their charter air service within Canada, to the U.S., Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East. Today, Air Transat flies out of 19 Canadian cities, although some are only seasonal gateways.

With a progressive environmental policy, Air Transat has been active in sustainable air travel, focusing mostly on energy efficiency and minimizing greenhouse emissions. The airline operates a mid-size fleet of Boeing narrow-body aircraft and wide-body jets made by Airbus. In 2015/16, Air Transat helped the Canadian government in the humanitarian effort of transporting Syrian refugees from Amman, Jordan, taking two plane loads to Toronto.

Air Transat is owned by tour operator Transat A.T. Inc., which also owns Transat Holidays, Canada’s leading vacation wholesaler for air-inclusive packages to the sun. In addition to package holidays, Transat Holidays also offers hotels, car rentals as well as cruises and local tours.
