5 Film Festival Cities You Need to Visit

Beautiful skyline of NYC

From the stunning locations, to the late-night parties, Film festivals offer much more than just celebrity spottings. We share 5 of the world’s most travel-worthy film festivals, and why you need to experience the cities that host them for yourself.

Toronto International Film Festival

Toronto, Canada

Toronto International Film Festival is the leading public film festival in the world, screening more than 300 films from 60+ countries every September. It has become the launching pad for the best of international, Hollywood and Canadian cinema. Not in town for the festival? You can still visit the TIFF Bell Lightbox which screens films year round and is located in the Entertainment District at King and John St. If you’re building up an appetite, you can check out one of the many neighbourhoods which offer authentic cuisine offerings from all over the world.  Ready to visit Toronto International Film Festival? Ready to visit Toronto for yourself? Cannes Film Festival

Cannes, France

Cannes Film Festival has become a bit of a legacy and has become the place where film and filmmakers are ‘discovered’. If you’re not already distracted by the incredibly good looking celebrities with the likes of George Clooney in attendence, you’ll certainly become distracted by all the stunning views of the French Riviera around you.

“A few days in Cannes feels like forever. You can get lost shopping all over town, eating huge seafood dishes, or just gasping in awe at the colour of the water.” – Marissa Rother, Flight Centre Travel Expert

Sundance Film Festival

Park City, Utah

Sundance Film Festival is hands down America’s biggest and best-known film festival which began in the late 1970’s and has turned into an 11-day mountain extravaganza. Sundance Film Festival is only 30 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport, there’s a range of activities to explore in and around this mountain town. Park City’s many award-winning restaurants are among the finest in the West, offering many different culinary styles and influences.

Tribeca Film Festival

New York City

Tribeca Film Festival was initially created to help rebuild Manhattan’s downtown district after the wake of 9/11, this event has transformed into one of the biggest and highly anticipated film festivals. It also has an accompanying online film festival and an Innovation Week that help promote the exchange of ideas amongst gamers, coders and storytellers. They also offer a free Tribeca Drive-In which is pretty brilliant. Ready to visit Tribeca Film Festival? Ready to experience the city that never sleeps? Browse our New York travel deals.

Sydney Film Festival

Sydney, Australia

Sydney Film Festival is celebrating it’s 60th birthday, this down-under festival is one of the oldest in the world, yet it continually aims to innovate each and every year. Set in one of the most beautiful cities, you’ll never tire of things to see and do. From the incredible beaches, to the non-stop entertainment, you’ll find it very hard to leave (trust me).
