Flight Centre’s Candice Jamieson recently travelled down under to wonderful Australia, where she discovers the beauty and diversity of this amazing country. Candice recaps her experiences with us and some of the awesome activities you can experience with Flight Centre and GOGO Worldwide Vacations.
I have just returned home from what I now consider to be one of the best destinations on the planet. Let me start by saying that I have always wanted to travel to Australia – but it was not a destination at the top of my travel list. Those of you who have been to Australia, know what I mean when I say that this country is extremely diverse. If you haven’t been to Australia yet, you must go!
Australia has something to offer everyone. From surf towns, tourist attractions, history, a European-like culture, and an amazing country side – what more could you ask for? Within my 8 days in Australia, I travelled on 12 flights and 1 train and I managed to see as much as possible. Have a look at my 10 day trip with GOGO Vacations and see what it is all about!
After arriving in Cairns we took a Gondola ride up through the Rainforest and stopped at each of its check points to explore and take photos. Spiders, snakes and tons of other native creatures live in this area. The views and waterfalls were absolutely breathtaking. You can take the gondola back down to the end or you can take the train down through the mining tunnels. The whole experience will take you about 3 to 3.5 hours from start to finish. Might I suggest upgrading to Gold Class on the train? Who can say no to wine and a cheese platter while you relax and take in the scenery?
Helicopter Tour of the Great Barrier Reef
Thanks to GOGO Vacations my life is forever changed. This was my first ever helicopter tour and it was over one of the most breathtaking views in the world-The Great Barrier Reef. Quicksilver Tours takes you from Port Douglas out to the reef on a ferry. Once you are at the reef, you can snorkel or dive if you have your PADI certification. They also offer glass bottom boats and helicopter tours from the site allowing you to view the reef from all vantage points. Well worth the $150.00 price tag and I would do it again in a heart beat!
Captain Cook Harbour Cruise
Jump on board in the heart of Sydney and take this amazing opportunity to learn about the city and how it came to be. This coffee cruise departs several times throughout the day and takes you under the Sydney Bridge and sails by the famous Sydney Opera House. Providing you with some spectacular photo opportunities!
Sydney is definitely one of the best cities to visit if you want to visit all the attractions. From the Opera House, Sydney Bridge and Bondi Beach you can see it all. In a bit of our spare time, we decided to hop on a double decker bus and travel around the city. The communities surrounding Sydney are amazing and the Hop-on-Hop-off bus is a great way to get your bearings and decide where you want to spend your time. We jumped off the bus at Bondi Beach and spent our day in the sand. Later that evening we ventured to one of the many local pubs, sat on the patio and enjoyed the warm night.
Travelling south of Sydney, our next city destination was Melbourne. Melbourne completely blew me away! This city has so much to offer and I fell in love almost instantly. The city is home to many alleys and side streets. Each alley is a new street with tons of store fronts and small shopping districts called arcades. This city gives of a very European feel with its architecture and rich culture. Underneath the city, there are a number of different tunnels and underground streets where local artists compete for the chance to showcase their new pieces. This city is truly unlike anywhere you’ve been before.
The Great Ocean Road
Take a tour with AAT KINGS and you won’t be disappointed! The Great Ocean road is one of the world’s most scenic journeys. I won’t lie though, it is a long day so prepare yourself. However, what you see and experience makes the travel time worth it. The winding road takes you along the coast showcasing spectacular ocean views, and when you’re not admiring the beautiful blue water, you can explore quaint seaside towns. The main event of this tour of course is the chance to see an Australian natural icon- the Twelve Apostles, first-hand. You can also take a few snaps of the kangaroos and koalas living in the Australian wilderness.
Barossa Wine Valley
Adelaide, our next city on the tour, was definitely a highlight but also a complete blur. Why was it a bur you ask? Well… at 10:30 am we rolled into our first stop, The Penfold’s Winery. Now I will tell you I am familiar with visiting wineries, tasting their most cherished bottles and moving onto the next winery. This winery visit however, was a bit more special. Upon arrival, they dressed us up in lab coats, brought us upstairs, and gave us the chance to create our own wine blends. We got to trial numerous blends of wine and create an end blend that suited our own personal pallets. Did I mention our group decided it was a must not to waste any wine along the way?
This is a must see for any of the wildlife lovers. Kangaroo Island is the 3rd largest island off the coast of Australia, and with multiple wildlife sanctuaries, there is no shortage of native animals. Only a short ferry ride from Adelaide, it makes for a great day-trip. We saw so many kangaroos, koalas and wombats – it was spectacular! We also got ridiculously close with so many seals and sea lions! Bird lovers can even witness the daily pelican feeding!
Australia was an amazing adventure and it was more special due to all the new friends I met and travelled with on the GOGO vacations tour. I am so lucky to have such an amazing opportunity. A special thanks to GOGO Worldwide Vacations who provided such an amazing itinerary!
