Our Flightie Trent shares the highlights of two of BC’s best ski resorts, Sun Peaks and Whistler/Blackcomb. Whether you’re looking for a quiet ski chalet, or a lively après ski party, Trent gives us the down low on which of these resorts is the place for you:
I have been to British Columbia many times before, but I never had the opportunity to experience all that their vast mountains and resorts have to offer. For this trip, we were off to two destinations: Sun Peaks and Whistler. Both resorts offer excellent skiing and snowboarding, but they are quite different!
Our first stop was Sun Peaks. Just a quick 30-minute transfer from the Kamloops airport and you’ll find yourself in what can be best described as a sleepy, European mountain village. If you do not like line-ups, this is the place for you. The conditions on the mountain were amazing and at times you will feel like you’re the only one on the whole mountain! While there are numerous restaurants and shops in the village, the tiny town turns in for the night not too long after 10 pm. This is the perfect place for anyone looking to get away for a nice relaxing ski holiday!
After about a 4-hour drive through the mountains we arrived in Whistler/Blackcomb. If there ever was a Vegas of Ski resorts, this place was it! Immediately you can see the hustle and bustle of people wandering through the village. In contrast to Sun peaks, the mountains are much busier with people (waiting in line for the lift is a standard) but the runs there are world class and there is a little bit of something for every skill level. One thing that was mentioned and what we learned is that the après ski is just as important as the ski day and you’re certainly not at a loss to find an abundance of places to wet your whistle. Whistler/Blackcomb is a great place to go to if you’re looking for some great skiing and a great party! If you’re headed here, be sure to check out our Top 10 Must-Do’s in Whistler.
