Another Epic Safety Video from Air New Zealand

by Daniel Nikulin November 1, 2014
written by Daniel Nikulin November 1, 2014

They’ve done it again! The brilliant, tongue-in-cheek marketing folks at Air New Zealand, the official airline of Middle-earth (and unofficial safety video heavyweight champion of the world!), have released yet another safety video that might very well be The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made.

To coincide with December’s release of the final installment in The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, this humorous and instructional safety video short follows a couple of travellers, clearly Hobbit fans, running to catch their Air New Zealand flight. After successfully making it on board, settling into their seats and breathing a sigh of relief, they realize that it’s none other than Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) sitting across the row from them and as they stare in disbelief, he gives them a creepy smile.

It’s then that their seat-back monitors come alive and take them on a magical journey to Hobbiton and Central Otago featuring members of the cast from all three films, including a cameo by the Trilogy director Sir Peter Jackson as well as actual Air New Zealand cabin crew, all dressed the part, explaining standard safety procedures many frequent flyers often tune out.

The video is currently being shown on select Air New Zealand flights and ends their successful three year partnership with the popular movie series. Back in 2012, The Hobbit inspired, An Unexpected Briefing, garnered more than 12 million on-line views and Air New Zealand’s other heavily-viewed safety videos such as Bear Essentials of Safety, Betty White’s Safety Old School and Richard Simmons’ Fit to Fly have all helped to enshrine the carrier as the leader in airline marketing as well as the unofficial safety video heavyweight champion of the world.
