Fulfilling My Childhood Dream in Egypt
For our Flightie Carissa, travel is her passion first and job second. As someone who loves seeing the sights, and experiencing different cultures, she jumped at the chance to visit Egypt. A place she’d only dreamed of visiting since she was a little girl. This past month she made that dream a reality as she made her way to Egypt with On the Go Tours:
When I was 10 years old, we did a study at school on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world. From that moment on I was fascinated with the Sphinx and Egypt. When you stand in front of this amazing piece of art with the back drop of 4000 year old Pyramids you can’t help but be in awe. It was my goal at that young age to see where these magnificent structures stood and On The Go fulfilled that dream for me this past month.
From the moment I arrived to the moment I left I felt well looked after and safe. It is no wonder Waleed (our tour guide) was nominated and one of the top 5 finalists of ‘Top tour Guide” in the world. We started in Cairo then down on the overnight train to Luxor, and I will add its well worth upgrading to the sleeper train! We had an amazing hot air balloon ride over the Valley of King and Queens and visited tombs.
A few of us, on our spare morning, went for a walk around Luxor to meet the people and how they lived.. it was truly an eye opening experience and something I will never forget. I would recommend if you are a woman (or even a bunch of women) to go with a male, this just helps the hustlers leave you alone.
From Luxor we went up to Dahab by the Red Sea and the highlight for me was Climbing Mt Sinai. It was a great physical challenge and an amazing spiritual experience. Mt Sinai is thought to be where Moses received the Ten Commandments and people from all over the world to a pilgrimage to Dahab for this very reason. While we were watching the sunrise it was so peaceful. When a group of people started to sign a hymn it was magical.
Egypt is truly a place of inspiration, history, fun, culture and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back again! Even if there is a small part of you that is thinking about going… just do it! You will not regret it and you will wonder why you didn’t go earlier!
