In Orlando, travelers of all ages can find every experience imaginable from wild to mild theme park thrills to sports and outdoor adventure, world-class shopping and dining, and history and culture:
Sports and Outdoor Adventure
Home to the NBA’s Orlando Magic basketball team and their new multi-million dollar arena, the Amway Center, Orlando also hosts more professional golf tournaments than any other, which is why many golf legends live in Orlando like Arnold Palmer. With mild temperatures and sunny blue skies year-round, outdoor activities are virtually limitless for adventure enthusiasts. More than 2,000 lakes, rivers and springs invite visitors to enjoy Orlando for fishing, kayaking, or waterskiing. The surrounding national parks and acres of lush foliage are a paradise for hikers, cyclists, horseback-riders and those who enjoy adventure trekking, off-road driving and ziplining.
Despite the tremendous appeal of Orlando’s world-famous theme parks and sports facilities, one of the top reported activities of all visitors to Orlando is shopping. Within approximately 15 miles, shoppers find twelve shopping malls and outlet centers complemented by numerous boutiques. No other city in the world offers such a choice of famous designer and brand labels in such a compact space. Yet, the entire shopping experience in Orlando fills 900 football fields. Talk about “shop until you drop!” It’s no wonder that Orlando is now among the top five most popular shopping destinations in the U.S.
History & Culture
Besides the world-famous attractions that the city of Orlando has to offer, the destination is also surprisingly rich in history and culture. The Orange County Regional History Center chronicles life in Orlando before Walt Disney World, when the area was first known for its cattle ranches and, later, orange groves. The Morse Museum houses the largest collection of Tiffany glass from the artist’s renowned stained glass windows to his famous lamps. A Cultural Corridor stretches approximately 10 miles from downtown Orlando to Winter Park, Central Florida’s oldest community, and features a wide variety of art galleries, museums and theatres.
Dining and Nightlife
Orlando’s dining and entertainment options reflect its visitors from around the world. Restaurant options run the gamut from African to Vietnamese and include eateries by popular U.S. celebrity chefs, intimate cafes and wine bars, dinner shows and dining experiences in uniquely themed environments. Orlando’s nightlife features exciting shows from Cirque du Soleil and the Blue Man Group, and some of the country’s most popular music acts of today performing at Hard Rock Live and House of Blues.
