The Party Life in Thailand with Contiki
Our friends at Contiki Holidays are known for throwing a good party, so we sent our resident party boy Reuben with them to Thailand to put them to the test. From the nightlife to the pristine beaches, our graphic designer shares his experience on the Contiki Thailand Island Hopping tour:
Imagine this: touring for seven days through some of Thailand’s most pristine and beautiful islands with other like-minded travellers. As you can probably imagine, I jumped at the chance to sign up. Here is a little taste of what you can expect on this amazing tour with Contiki Holidays:
As the third largest island in Thailand, this area is known for its spectacular natural beauty, beaches and good times. We arrived in Koh Samui on a hot sticky evening and made our way to a cute boutique hotel for some much needed shut-eye. The next morning we met the rest of our Contiki group, our guide Dave, and shortly after getting our pre-tour briefing, four 4wd jeeps arrived to take us on our first adventure!
Our first stop was a fresh coconut tasting followed by an elephant ride and pictures with tigers. After having some fun in the water, it was off to see some monuments and other points of interest. We were offered to sit on the roof of the jeep so I keenly obliged, only to realize there is nothing keeping you on this roof except you!
We made it back to the hotel after what felt like a week already, but its only been a day and we keep the fun going by checking out some of Koh Samui’s nightlife! At night this island goes off! Spots like Chaweng, (the island’s most popular beach) comes alive with both locals and travellers. With so many bars and clubs located right on the beach, it’s the perfect place to party with your travel buddies, locals and new mates.
Koh Pha Ngan
In true party style, I woke up after a solid three hour sleep to catch the ferry to Koh Pha Ngan. We were given some free time to purchase some outfits for a mini-full moon party hosted at our hotel. We arrived at the resort which was a really nice bungalow style accommodation in the middle of dense vegetation.
With close access to excellent dive spots, Koh Pha Ngan is quickly developing a reputation as a great learn-to-dive location too! If you have a diving certificate or want to learn how, you could head out on a boat and explore some of the island’s key diving spots while you’re here. For some reason I had decided it would be a good idea to be up at 6am for a scuba dive, and let me tell you, 90 minutes on a boat in heavy swells really intensifies a hangover. Nonetheless, I managed to fit in two dives and saw thousands of fish.
As the sun goes down, the hotel bar flicks on its black lights and provided us with fluorescent paints. We cover ourselves from head to toe in all sorts of designs and party the night away. We had a black-moon party which consisted of black lights, florescent paint, music, fire dances, cocktails… and well, some more cocktails 😉
We had an 11am departure for another boat cruise to Koh Tao and arrived on one of the most beautiful islands ever. Koh Tao is known for its submerged scenery, so it’s a not-to-miss experience when you visit. We were told about a famous Ladyboy Cabaret Show so we went to check it out, and I have to say it was the the most entertaining thing I’ve ever seen! I would recommend this to anyone up for something a little different.
The next day we headed out for some snorkelling and checked out some of the other islands close to Koh Tao, which were absolutely amazing. The word paradise barely does it justice.
Another night out enjoying some of the local nightlife and then it was up for a transfer back to Koh Samui where our tour came to an end.
Overall, this was an amazing experience and Contiki really made it so much fun. They were well organized, a good bunch of people, and had great tour guides. I would recommend a Contiki tour to anyone wanting a hassle free vacation and up for some serious fun!
