Princess Cruises has something exciting brewing

by Alyssa Daniells

Princess Cruises will launch its own beer to honour its upcoming 50th anniversary.

The Seawitch West Coast India Pale Ale was created for this milestone event, joining the list of other exciting things the cruise line has on tap to mark its 50th in 2015.  For example, last month, Princess announced the cast of the television hit The Love Boat will launch the celebrations.

Developed by California craft brewery  Strike Brewing Company, Seawitch IPA is named after Princess Cruises’ logo (yes, those are the flowing locks of a sea witch, not a princess) and will be launched in November, when the anniversary celebrations kick off aboard the Regal Princess, the fleet’s newest ship. Princess also originates from California, which influenced the choice of brewmaster.

Seawitch IPA beer will be exclusively available on all Princess ships in early 2015.

The idea of offering its own craft beer is refreshing, although Princess Cruises is no stranger to innovation. The cruise line is also credited for popularizing cruise vacations due to the success of The Love Boat TV series, which took place on the Pacific Princess.

When the cast, crew and lucky passengers aboard the Regal Princess toast the anniversary, perhaps they’ll skip the usual bubbles and go for some beer bubbles instead at the official launch of the 50th anniversary on Nov 5th.
