5 Brilliant Travel Destinations Inspired by The Queen’s Gambit

Admit it. You watched The Queen’s Gambit in one sitting, didn’t you? While you can’t experience the magic of watching the smash-hit series for the first time again, you can follow in Beth Harmon’s footsteps with a trip to these iconic filming locations! “Check” it out. (Sorry).

1. Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City

There’s no better place to meet up with your handsome childhood pen pal. A visit to bustling Mexico City isn’t complete without a stop at the Angel of Independence.

2. Plaza del Zócalo, Mexico City

The site of Plaza de la Constitución has been culturally significant since pre-contact. Today, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Metropolitan Cathedral, just like Beth and Alma. Except, your balcony scene comes courtesy of Balcón del Zócalo, the iconic fine dining restaurant right across the square.

3. Palais am Funkturm, Berlin

With a little Hollywood magic, the “Vegas” US open actually takes place in Berlin. This postcard-perfect event space was built in 1956 and still retains its unique mid-century charm.

4. Altes Stadthaus, Berlin

So you’ve made it to the Moscow Invitational. That means you’ll actually be visiting Bärensaal in Old City Hall, Berlin. The ornate government building currently doubles as a beautiful space for weddings and special events.

5. Tiergarten Park, Berlin

We won’t spoil anything, of course, but we do think it would be fitting to squeeze in a leisurely trip to Berlin’s Tiergarten Park before your adventure concludes. The massive urban park is perfect for a picnic, a bike ride, and yes – a game of chess.

  • The filming location for the Lexington “Ben Snyder’s is actually the Humana vintage shop in Frankfurter Tor, Berlin. Why not stop by and pick out a one-of-a-kind outfit?
  • The Queen’s Gambit Paris scenes come to life at Haus Cumberland and Bode Museum, both in Berlin.
  • You can also spot a couple of familiar buildings right here at home, in Cambridge, Hamilton, and Toronto, Ontario.
