Travel Alert: Japan and Surrounding Areas

by Emma Hackwood March 11, 2011

Japan

Flight Centre Limited is working to help customers travelling in Japan. We are also contacting customers about to commence their journeys to discuss travel options. FCL is working with its travel providers to communicate information and policies in relation to the disruption of their services and to reaccommodate passengers as best we can.

After a strong earthquake hit the northeast coast of Japan early Friday morning,  subsequent tsunami’s between 3.7 and 10 meters  have affected the Pacific Coast of Japan’s Islands. Main affected areas are Miyagi, Ibraki, Aomori Prefectures and Hokkaido. Sendai City, Fukushima City and Aomori City have been affected the most, with ongoing aftershocks affecting the area.

Canadians in need of assistance are encouraged to contact the Embassy of Canada in Tokyo

or call  81 (3) 5412-6200.

We advise anyone who has planned to travel to/from Japan to stay advised on this Travel Report by the Government of Canada.

** Normal flight services have resumed to, from and between most Japanese cities, excluding Sendai and the worst affected areas. International flights in and out of Kansai (Osaka) as well as the Tokyo airports (Haneda and Narita) are operating as normal.

*Please note that Narita (the main international gateway) is 60 km from Tokyo city. Haneda services mostly domestic and North Asia services and is 15 km from the city.

*To discuss travelling to/from Japan please contact a Flight Centre agent or call  1-877-967-5302
