Vancouver Residents camp out for days to score Air New Zealand deal
If there was any question as to whether Canadians love to travel, the recent Flight Centre / Air New Zealand fare promotion in Vancouver left little doubt that the answer is a resounding ‘YES’!
In celebration of Air New Zealand’s 75th anniversary and in conjunction with Flight Centre’s 20th anniversary of doing business in Canada, the airline was offering 75 airfares from Vancouver to Auckland, New Zealand for an incredible $475, INCLUDING taxes.
The tickets were only available on Wed June 17th and had to be purchased in person at the Flight Centre Ultra Shop at 625 Howe Street in downtown Vancouver.
The announcement quickly went viral and Vancouver residents jumped at the opportunity to scoop up this great deal. Some camped out for 4 days to be guaranteed one of the first 75 spots in line.
On the morning of the sale, the people in line were treated to breakfast courtesy of Air New Zealand and Flight Centre, as well as a traditional Haka dance from Kapa Haka Maori dancers.
Some were going home to visit family, while others were just looking for a great reason to travel and check another country off their list.
Customers were also given the chance to “jump the queue” at the Flight Centre Shop by entering online via social media. Five lucky winners were selected and the remaining 70 tickets were sold to those waiting in line. An additional exclusive discount of $275 off flights to New Zealand were also available on the day for those that missed the 75 ticket cut-off. By the time the doors opened, close to 100 people were lined up hoping to get one of the $475 tickets.
