Calgary based WestJet Airlines is growing. Their new regional affiliate WestJet Encore has obtained its AOC (Air Operator Certificate) and will make its debut in the western skies on June 24th, promising travellers the same fun and friendly experience WestJet customers have come to expect.
Flying brand new, next generation turbo-props made by Canadian manufacturer Bombardier, the Q400 planes have a guest capacity of 78 in a single class of service and will launch with flights from Calgary to Nanaimo, Fort St. John, Vancouver, Victoria and Saskatoon, picking up Brandon, Manitoba in early September. Plans to expand service to eastern Canada are already in the works. As the Q400’s are considerably smaller than WestJet’s typical Boeing 737 aircraft, only smaller carry-on items will be allowed in the cabin. Guests will still be allowed to check one free piece of luggage and can pay for up to two more checked items (maximum weight 23kg/50lbs per bag, maximum size 157cm/62in combined, length + width + height).
WestJet Encore flights will be identifiable by flight numbers in the range of WS3100 – WS3899.
