Why Flight Centre isn’t the perfect travel job for you.

If you dream of a travel job, a career with Flight Centre could be for you! Unless you agree with the following, that is.

  • Don’t feel like making a difference in the world?
  • Prefer an unbalanced work/life ratio?
  • Not into having an inspiring mentor, just a boss?
  • Can’t stand an engaging workplace?
  • Find challenges and innovation annoying?

If you said yes to any of these, you may hate working for Flight Centre.

There are more reasons you may dislike working for us:

1. Flight Centre wins employment awards.

If you don’t like being on a winning team, you’ll be glad to give us a miss. Flight Centre is ranked among Canada’s best employers, as well as winning corporate culture distinctions, year after year. So far in 2017, we made the Globe & Mail’s annual report, among other best employer lists from respected sources.

2. Our passion is to show people the world.

Flight Centre’s mission is to “open up the world for those who want to see.” Whether to ignite or fuel the desire to travel, it’s the driving force behind what we do. People are naturally curious, searching for knowledge and understanding. If you don’t have a thirst to seek out new cultures and experiences, or don’t think travel is important, work here and you’ll be shaking your fist at us in no time.

3. We help our communities.

From participating in Vancouver and Toronto Pride parades, to our charitable Flight Centre Foundation, we support local and global communities. Since 2003, our national charity of choice has been Make-A-Wish® Canada. We also team up with the Sandals Foundation, resulting in the largest community outreach programs in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos histories. Last year, we donated to the Paralympic Foundation of Canada and Paralympic Team Canada, for whom we are the official travel supplier. At annual leadership conferences, we participate in charitable work that positively impacts the destination and its people. Sorry to disappoint you if you were hoping to avoid a company that cares about giving back.

4. We help our people.

We want you to succeed. Professionally of course, but personally too. That is why, while other companies are dissolving personal development and benefits programs, ours are stronger than ever. Moneywise, our in-house financial experts, are here to help you manage your money. Healthwise is committed to employee physical and mental well-being, with fun challenges and access to advice, from nutritional overhauls to guided meditation.

5. We’re an open-minded, non-judgmental work zone.

Flight Centre embraces all ages (new recruits range from Millennials to Baby Boomers) as well as all cultural, social and religious backgrounds. As a company that believes in opening the world, we have no room nor tolerance for shutting anyone out.

6. Our work culture is the envy of our friends.

We celebrate achievements whenever we can. How, you ask? Oh, like hosting a few thousand employees at our annual Global Gathering, where we fly top performers to destinations like Hawaii, Las Vegas, Macau, Singapore or Berlin. You know, the usual. There, they hear celebrity speakers like Bill Clinton, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sir Richard Branson and musical guests like Duran Duran, will.i.am and Pitbull, to name a few past guests. We also have regular awards nights where we eat, drink and celebrate retail area successes. Consultants often describe their team as family—supportive, with a healthy dose of competition.

7. We are all about Brightness of Future.

Do you aspire to be like your pet hamster, running on an endless wheel, going nowhere? Why not, he’s kind of cute, right?  Then we are not for you (or you, Hammy.) Flight Centre Travel Group is one of the world’s largest travel agencies, located in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America.  There are transfer opportunities all over the world. Based on tenets of egalitarianism, the vast majority of our management began as consultants and worked their way up.  FCTG is composed of 30 different wholesale, retail and corporate travel brands. The variety of companies (CIEvents, Stage and Screen) means an exciting array of positions available to you.

8. No other travel job wants you to take a holiday as much as Flight Centre does!

Hate vacations? Prepare to cringe when we tell you that we encourage our travel agents to take familiarization trips (FAMs) to learn about destinations, with a monetary allowance to do so. You may need a bucket as you gag when we tell you about conferences in places like Turks & Caicos and Mexico. Speaking of bucket, these trips are a great way to integrate your bucket list life wishes with work. As if getting paid to fulfill your dreams wasn’t enough, as a travel agent you get discounts from participating suppliers.

9. You’re not just a number.

If wanting to feel like just a number at work applies to you, you need not apply to work here.  We foster personal growth and your role in the company’s bigger picture. Do you like the idea of working tirelessly on a company’s bottom line without it benefitting, or integrating with, your own life? Then you’ll want to run out of Flight Centre faster than you can say, “I hate fun!”
