Wow! The Spectacular Quantum of the Seas Makes Waves

Wow! The Spectacular Quantum of the Seas Makes Waves

Royal Caribbean’s newest addition to its fleet, Quantum of the Seas, lives up to the cruise line’s slogan– WOW.

The third largest cruise ship in the world, Quantum of the Seas made her much-anticipated maiden voyage this week. Departing Southampton, England, she will arrive in New Jersey, passing by New York City, on Nov 10. This transatlantic ocean journey is reminiscent of the bygone age of travel, but that’s where the similarity ends– Quantum of the Seas is the world’s most state-of-the-art cruise ship.

The overall experience, Royal Caribbean promises, will be richer and more personalized. This is a remarkable feat for a ship so grand, but attainable thanks to never-been-seen before innovations.

Think robot bartenders (not only a cruise line first, but a first in the world), mixing margaritas and martins at the Bionic Bar, where you place your orders on a tablet. If a cyber cocktail concoction isn’t your cup of tea (or glass of wine), there’s still good old-fashioned service to make your Old Fashioned.

Electronic wristbands will replace cabin keys, eliminating the hassle of misplacing keys and needing new ones cut, since. Equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID), wearing a wristband also allows guests to make payments and to navigate the ship.

Although it’s technologically advanced, even land-lubbin’ luddites will love the Quantum of the Seas. The cruise line promises a cruise experience that’s more comfortable and convenient.

With improved and easier check-in and boarding processes, the usual long wait is eliminated, with passengers getting on the ship within ten minutes. Quantum’s SMART Technology allows you to check in from home to avoid long line-ups, and SMART Concierge helps you plan your cruise activities in advance.  There’s also a new app for download, the Royal IQ, that helps you stay organized and afloat on what’s going on.

The high-tech features create astounding aesthetics too. Window-less interior staterooms are a thing of the past aboard the Quantum, thanks to virtual balconies showcasing ocean vistas and clear skies, stretching floor to ceiling.

The true state-of-the-art showstopper is Two70, where you can have a daytime drink and enjoy the 270-degree sweeping ocean views of multi-level windows. Projection screens then seamlessly transform the massive space into breathtaking environments, from Art Deco speakeasies, underwater scenes to otherworldly visions. Live acrobatics, music and other acts round out this magical, revolutionary experience.

The jewel in the Quantum’s crown is Royal Caribbean’s North Star, a sparkling observation capsule made of glass, held by an arm that lifts passengers 300 feet above sea level and provides dramatic 360-degree views of the ocean and depending on your Quantum’s coordinates, sights beyond.

On the topic of sights beyond, the Quantum of the Seas is certainly a step ahead of any ship seen before. Once she arrives at her destination on November 10th, she will make her way to the Caribbean for the 2014-2015 season.
