Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, two of Europe’s largest airlines, will add new services from Vancouver and Edmonton airports next year.
Vancouver Airport Authority President and CEO, Craig Richmond, is “thrilled” about the announcement, as customers have long requested non-stop flights to Europe, particularly Air France’s hub, Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.
A recent survey conducted by the Vancouver Airport Authority indicated that Paris is the number one asked for destination by Vancouver residents.
KLM, Air France’s co-carrier, made a similar move by announcing flights operating from Edmonton International Airport on May 5, 2015, flying direct to KLM’s hub, Amsterdam Airport Schipol. This is the only flight by a European carrier that connects Edmonton to continental Europe.
Air France’s service will be three times weekly starting March 29 to May 3, 2015, increasing to five times weekly from May 4 to September 13, returning to three times weekly September 14 to October 24.
KLM will offer three flights weekly from Edmonton to Amsterdam commencing May 5, 2015, growing to four on June 22.
This is good news not only for travellers, but the economy. The coming Vancouver service will create 248 new jobs, adding $8.8 million in wages and $13.7 million in Gross Domestic Product.
Moreover, additional air travel from Canada from France and the Netherlands will enhance trade between the countries and increase European tourism in Western Canada, which is socially and economically advantageous.
Passengers on Air France Vancouver to Paris – Charles de Gaulle will fly on Boeing 777-200 aircraft and the KLM service will be operated by Airbus A330-200s.
Although the new Air France and KLM services from Vancouver and Edmonton don’t begin until March and May 2015, respectively, we suggest booking your flight to Paris or Amsterdam (or both!) soon to get the best prices.
