A Year of Travel Blogging, Vacations, Tweeting, and Contests

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

So, yesterday was Canada Day and the start of a new fiscal year here at Flight Centre. Today I find myself sitting on the deck of the cottage on Manitoulin Island reflecting on the past year… and what a year it was. Last year at this time the Flight Centre Travel Blog was just a few months old, we were starting to have some great conversations on Twitter @Flight_Centre, we were imagining contests where we could send people around the world, and we were dreaming of what could happen when Flight Centre mixed travel with social media. Since then, Flighties have taken us on travel adventures to Cambodia, Japan, Australia, Egypt, South America, Italy, and right here at home in Canada. We had the pleasure of having guest bloggers like Ashley Mikulik blog from her Western US road trip ...

Family, Social Media, & Ten Amazing Things About London!

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Flight Centre’s good friend Karim Kanji joins us to talk about the value of Social Media and sharing experiences (including his travels with his family). Speaking of travel experiences, Karim wrote this post from his recent family vacation to London England so we asked him to give us his top 10 favourite things about London, England when on a holiday. Let’s turn this over to Karim – I travelled to England and it's partly thanks to the good folks at Flight Centre. (Follow some of the links below to see some of the places I've visited on my trip "back home".) I'm a big fan of social media and am presently studying it to better understand its implications on business, the charity/non-profit world, and work. Many people use tools like Facebook and Flickr to also keep in touch with ...

A New Friend in England with Guest Blogger Karim Kanji

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Karim Kanji joins the Flight Centre Travel Blog from his vacation in England where he meets Dave Holby. Dave is on a pretty incredible mission. One of my favourite things to do these days is meeting new and interesting people. Today I had the opportunity to meet a guy who's attempting to set SIX Guinness World Records. His name is Dave. I met him while he was rowing outside a clothing store in Basingstoke.

No, he wasn't rowing down the River Thames. He was rowing on a stationary rowing machine, outside, in the cold and mostly damp English autumn.

So you know I had to go and ask him if he needed directions to the nearest mental facility. Turns out Dave is a ...

British Invasion with Flight Centre Guest Blogger Karim Kanji

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Karim Kanji is our newest guest blogger on the Flight Centre Travel Blog. A quick bit of history - we connected with Karim on Twitter, had some great conversations, helped Karim book his vacation to the UK, and next thing we knew Karim was offering to blog about his holidays; wow, we were honoured! So, Karim is going to jump in with quick bits from his travels. Hello FC'ers! My name is Karim Kanji and I am an avid blogger. You can find me on Twitter and Facebook as well as at my online "home" at INSPIRation by Karim. This, however, is my first visit to the Flight Centre blog. I want to tell you how I got here. I believe that social media, among other things, is a great way to tell companies what we want. ...
