Asia highlights Air Canada

It sure has been a busy week for the PR team over at Air Canada!

The first news item broke on November 28th, when Canada’s national airline announced plans to offer their most loyal customers the option of complimentary Wi-Fi on board Air Canada flights, becoming the first North American airline to do so.

A day later, the flagship carrier introduced six new routes in North America, all to commence service this upcoming spring. (And today, a few more Canadian routes were added!)

November ended with Air Canada unveiling its brand new lounge in Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, opening to the public today.

Not a bad week of wins for a company that’s always looking at ways to better serve its customers and expand its reach. Let’s take a closer look at each of the developments.

High-tier Frequent Flyers to Get New Wi-Fi Perks

Air Canada Altitude Elite and Super Elite members, listen up! Your time in the sky is about to get a digital face lift.

Airlines have always rewarded their most devoted fliers with incentives and perks for their brand loyalty but Air Canada is about to raise the bar on how it says thank-you. It is adding a choice of complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi to its list of rewards, becoming the first North American airline to extend this benefit.

Based on whether you have qualified for Elite (75K) or Super Elite (100K) status, travellers will get the opportunity to select complimentary 6 and 12-month unlimited-use passes for in-flight internet access (through provider, Gogo) on board Air Canada, Air Canada Express and Air Canada Rouge operated flights.

As Air Canada’s partnership with Aeroplan nears its end, and the airline shifts towards a new, digital-first loyalty program for the summer of 2020, it wants to keep enhancing the benefits to those who use the carrier most. The offer will be available to Altitude members before the end of the year, as part of their 2018 Altitude benefits package.

New North American Routes

Six, no, make it 7! Wait, more? Yup.  A slew of new Air Canada routes will expand the carrier’s North American network, better linking Canada and the U.S.A.

The Air Canada Signature Suite Lounge

Toronto’s Pearson International Airport has just welcomed a sophisticated, well-dressed new tenant.

Opening today, December the 1st, Air Canada’s brand new Signature Suite Lounge is already turning heads. Focusing exclusively on premium international passengers booked in International Business Class, the smart and stylish oasis is designed to compete with luxury airport lounges worldwide.

A full-fare Business Class ticket grants guests complimentary admittance to the 6,400-square-foot space, conveniently located in Terminal 1, adjacent to Air Canada’s International departure gates. The 5-star, 160-capacity lounge is the brainchild of Montreal-based design and architect firm, Heekyung Duquette, and features a soothing colour scheme of dark woods, soft tones and warm lighting, punctuated by a whimsical Cloudscape Chandelier by Toronto’s Moss & Lam. A stunning landscape mural and contrasting marble finishes round out the elegant retreat.

Get there early enough before your flight and sit down to a 45-minute a la carte meal from a menu designed by the acclaimed Chef David Hawksworth. If you’re a little tight on time, enjoy a quick bite from the bar menu, and sample the lounge’s incredible wines, Moët & Chandon champagne and creative cocktails.

Bon voyage!
