For those simply seeking hot weather, there is no bad time to visit Thailand. Even at it’s coolest, temperatures hover around 30°C, and overnight lows rarely dip below 20°C. In Thailand, it’s all about humidity and staying dry.
While some plan their travels around opportune weather, others prefer to avoid the crowds of high season. In Thailand, high season and the country’s best weather coincide, leaving our winter months as both the busiest as well as the best time to visit Thailand, weather-wise.
If you are planning on going south, it is also important to note the difference between the weather in the Gulf of Thailand (east) and that of the Andaman Sea coast (west), as they can often differ. While it can be picture-perfect in Phuket, Railay Beach and the Phi Phi Islands, it can be wet and stormy in Koh Samui, Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao, and vice versa.
In Thailand, the seasons break down as such:
- High Season – November to March (winter)
- Shoulder Season – April to June / September to October (spring/fall)
- Low Season – July to August (summer)
Thailand in Summer
In general, our summer months bring extremely hot and humid weather to much of Thailand, triggering heavy rains and typhoons of the monsoon season that can sometimes last weeks. It is less crowded in the low season, driving prices down for both accommodations and airline tickets to get there.
Thailand in Winter
Our winter months bring less humid, sunny and dry weather to most of the country, as well as larger crowds seeking some winter sun. December’s holiday season also bring more families, using school breaks for vacation time. Prices are in line with demand and everything is more expensive.
Thailand in Spring/Fall
Spring and fall travel can often be the most rewarding, with decent weather, respectable rates and manageable crowds.
