Canada Day Canadian Music Artists Playlist, Sounds Like Canada!

canada day 2018

Every summer has its song. Some years are better than others, but everyone has at least one song that reminds them of ‘that one summer when…’

With summer kicking off, we’ve decided to follow up our Long Weekend Playlist with an all-new Canada Day Playlist. We’ve added more Canadian music artists like Bahamas and Grimes, repeated a few like Drake and Carly Rae Jepsen, and then added in a dash of Shania, for good measure. This music playlist sounds like Canada and we couldn’t be prouder.

From us to you, here’s a special all-Canadian mixed tape made with love. Happy Canada Day 2019!

Home is Where the Heart Is

Have any plans for the summer yet? With so much to see and do across this great nation of ours, the possibilities are endless. Let our playlist inspire your next Canadian long weekend getaway!

vancouver british columbia

Check out Grimes’ hometown of Vancouver in beautiful
British Columbia. Picnic in Stanley Park by Vancouver’s stunning coastline, or enjoy some summer sun on one of the city’s buzzing beaches. Sit down for a pint at one of the craft breweries, and satisfy your appetite at one of the ramen bars and West Coast eateries. Head out of the city on a good old road trip and take the scenic Sea to Sky highway to Whistler, it’s worth it for the ocean views alone. Escape to the Okanagan for a weekend in the vineyards, or head to Tofino for a cold surf. British Columbia is a summer haven for the outdoorsy folk, foodies, and lazy beach day lovers.

niagara falls ontario

Toronto is the epicentre of culture, the arts, and diversity. See the sprawling
Ontario city that shaped Drake, Neil Young, and Alannah Myles. Stroll through Toronto’s distinct and unique neighbourhoods, from trendy West Queen West to eclectic Kensington Market, to the sandy Beaches. Spend the day at the Art Gallery of Ontario or Royal Ontario Museum, and marvel at exhibits making rounds on the global circuit. Take a ferry out to the Toronto Islands for some time away from the city, or find some peace and quiet within the city at Trinity Bellwoods Park. Caribana (or, Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival) is an annual parade that draws over a million tourists to the city to celebrate Caribbean culture with food, colourful costumes, and music. The celebration runs from Jul. 7-Aug. 11, 2019, and the Grande Parade takes place on Aug. 3. For a short break from the city, head to Niagara-on-the-Lake for world-class wineries and vineyards in a peaceful, country setting.

Cadence Weapon is Edmonton, Alberta born and raised. Thinking of heading to Alberta’s capital? Summer is bonafide festival season in Edmonton and the best time to visit. We’re talking jazz, folk, and blues festivals, arts festivals, food and craft beer festivals, and the list goes on. Celebrate Pride in Calgary for one of the city’s biggest and most colourful celebrations of the year at Pride in the Park. The festivities take place from Aug. 23-Sep. 2, 2019. Be sure to catch the Pride Parade on Sep. 1. Leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and head to Lake Louise. Known for its glacial emerald green lake and serrated mountain peaks, Lake Louise is a ski resort town open year-round. Go for a stroll along the shoreline trail, canoe across the lake, or just relax and unwind. From its wild western heritage and cowboy lifestyle to sprawling, sophisticated cosmopolitan cities, Alberta’s diverse landscape will leave you wanting more.

Between British Columbia’s natural beauty, Quebec and  Ontario’s diversity and culture, Saskatchewan’s infinite Prairie landscape, the friendly coastal cities of the Maritimes, and the remote wilderness of Nunavut, we love the Great White North. Wherever you may be this summer, cue up this Canada Day playlist and celebrate our nation’s greatest holiday.
