Flight Centre teams up with Intrepid Travel & Cathay Pacific for 2nd Annual Charity Trip

Flight Centre Canada is pleased to announce it has teamed up with Intrepid Travel and Cathay Pacific Airways for the company’s 2nd Annual Employee Charity trip. In September, 15 Flight Centre employees from across the country will be travelling to Thailand to raise awareness and funds for Friends of the Asian Elephant , an organization committed to protecting and treating the Asian elephant.

Intrepid Travel has worked closely with World Animal Protection including a 3 year research program on animal welfare in Thailand and South East Asia. In 2014, Intrepid became the first global tour operator to end elephant rides and visits to animal entertainment venues on all of their trips.

Conservation is an important part of the Cathay Pacific culture.  As an Asian travel expert, the airline is committed to supporting habitat-protection programs in the region and encouraging responsible travel to Thailand, one of the most beautiful and picturesque countries in the world.  Cathay Pacific and sister airline, Dragonair, operates daily flights to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket and, through code-share partner, Bangkok Airways, flies to Krabi and the island of Koh Samui.  All flights operate via the airline’s hub of Hong Kong.

The Flight Centre team is made up of 8 members from British Columbia, 2 members from Ontario 3 members from Alberta, and one member from Saskatchewan all eager to help raise money for this worthy cause. Each member is responsible for their trip costs as well as $1,000 in donations to Friends of the Asian Elephant. The Intrepid Foundation will be matching those donations dollar for dollar meaning a minimum $30,000 contribution.

“Flight Centre is thrilled to be working with such great like-minded travel partners that are helping make this trip possible,” says Allison Wallace, Director of Media & Communications, Flight Centre Canada. “This trip will provide a fantastic platform for educating our people as well as our clients on Thailand as a destination as well as responsible travel practices.”

“Responsible business is at the core of everything we do,” says Nicholas Shuttleworth, VP of Industry Sales for Intrepid Travel North America. “It is such a privilege for us to work with our partners and engage the travel community to help support a cause so close to our heart.”

“Cathay Pacific is extremely proud to partner with Flight Centre to help bring their Canada team members together for such a unique experience.  We hope it will serve as an inspiration, not only for those taking part, but to everyone who shares a passion for improving the lives of Asian elephants,” says Maureen Kam, Director, Sales & Marketing, Canada for Cathay Pacific Airways.
