Love it or hate it, surf the world wide web on April Fools Day, and you’ll most likely be met with sensationalized stories and somewhat comedic videos where brands poke fun at this day with outlandish ideas. Year after year, travel brands seem to step up their game in hopes to top their last big prank. We decided to highlight some of our favourite pranks from our fellow travel suppliers over the years in hopes to bring you a chuckle or two:

WestJet Eases Restrictions on Pets in the Cabin

As if last years prank of ‘kids-free cabins‘ wasn’t funny enough, our friends at WestJet have announced that this year they are allowing animals to travel with you in your cabin as part of their new ‘furry family’ program:


Virgin Launches Glass Bottom Plane

Today Virgin ‘announced’ that their engineering crew have been secretly working on the design and production of the world’s first-ever glass-bottomed plane, created to ensure passengers can enjoy both an unparalleled flying experience, while seeing stunning landscapes from the comfort of their seats.  Could you imagine such a thing? Read more about it here.



Google Maps Announces ‘Treasure Mode’

Fancy going on a treasure hunt? Google has just the thing for you. In September 2012 they claim that their team discovered a paper map that has been verified as Captain Kidd’s treasure map. However, since they haven’t deciphered all the clues yet, they need help solving the mystery to find the long lost treasure. Read more about it on their blog.



This April fools day video went viral in 2009 showing a craft based on the Soviet made Mil V-12 military helicopter, leading millions of people to believe the world’s first luxury hotel/helicopter was in fact a reality. Also this is completely fiction, it wouldn’t surprise us if this becomes a reality one day…



G Adventures Hidden Camera Prank

G Adventures is a pretty great (and weird) place to work—”Embrace the Bizarre” is one of our Core Values, after all. At their Toronto headquarters, they decided to play a prank using one of their many themes meeting rooms, (in this case the  Star Wars room). Like the deck of the Millennium Falcon, the Star Wars room is a great place to gather, reflect, recharge your DL-44 heavy blaster pistol and hatch a plan… except on April Fool’s Day, that is:
