Top 5 Thrill Rides in Orlando

There are a few places in the world that reduces a grown adult to a pre-adolescent giggling (and sometimes screaming) mess. One of those places would indeed be Orlando, Florida. With a inexhaustible array of attractions on offer to it’s diverse and wondrous landscapes, this city has something for everyone, of every age and personality. Our Travel Consultant Graham Done shares some of the top thrill rides that Orlando has to offer:

Personally, what draws me to Orlando is the absolute abundance of heart stopping, cold sweat inducing, gravity ignoring rides they have to offer. Here are my top 5 picks for all your dare devils. These are not necessarily in order of enjoyment, as each ride offers you something unique.

1. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure

For all you Potter fans out there, this will be sure to make you “squee” for joy as long as you are not nervous about a simulator ride with some sudden movement and terrifying state of the art animatronics. Thrown back, forward and around and around on your enchant bench while trying to things that are attempting to cause you harm (No spoilers, go and see it!) This is definitely not for the faint hearted but an absolute must do for thrill seekers and Potter fans alike. Push through the pain and ye shall be rewarded!

2. The Manta/ Kraken– Sea World Orlando

After a nice relaxing time visiting the cute animals, learning about marine conservation and feeding the adorable dolphins, one might want a change of pace and the two roller coasters within Sea World certainly delivers. Yes I know I am cheating with two, they both offer a high speed and enormous drop experience. The Kraken being a 144 foot drop will invert you 7 times, and the Manta with a smaller 113 feet will offer you something a little different. How about hanging face down? Sounds thrilling? Sounds terrifying? It is simple amazing! The “upside down” loop is such a unique experience- the Manta is a must do!

3. The Incredible Hulk Coaster – Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure

Loud and proud is the best way to describe this huge green beast. 0-40mph in 2 seconds with a roll and with a track specifically designed to be louder than your average bear. 7 inversions and two subterranean trenches during the 2-minute 15-second ride, feel the beast!

4. Expedition Everest – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Everest ride in Orlando

The huge mountain sitting at a peak of 200feet offers another unique experience in Orlando’s arsenal. Close encounter with a dangerous beast and the feeling of going in reverse await you within this beautifully crafted and immerse experience.

5. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Don’t trust the countdown voice, it lies! 0-60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds, loops and flying within an dark indoor centre. Always a highlight no matter how many times you venture into the Disney Aerosmith studios.

Aquatica ride in OrlandoHonourable mention: Ihu’s Breakaway Falls – Aquatica by Sea World Orlando

The tallest, steepest and only multi-drop tower of its kind in Orlando. Face your friends and try and time when you will drop straight below into the twisting turning pipes. Random count and cold sweat inducing anticipation, luckily a cool dip follows!

There are many more I have not mentioned, literally a ride for every level of thrill rider and each one of the extremely different. Orlando certainly did not disappoint…it only made me check my harness a few times!
