Planning a trip to the beautiful rocky mountains? Our Travel Expert Shanna Selinger shares five reasons why experiencing Gold Leaf Service on the Rocky Mountaineer train is one of the best ways to experience this beautiful part of Canada.

Everyone knows that iconic vision of a long beautiful train carrying its blue and golden cars, moving smoothly through the Rocky Mountains, a classic shot of the BC landscape behind. And most people want to become a part of that picture. As a BC girl, who has driven and played all over this incredible province, I finally had the opportunity to take this once in a lifetime journey from Vancouver to Jasper, and onwards by bus through Lake Louise, Banff and onto Calgary. For all those reasons that you may have dreamed of riding the Rocky Mountaineer, I have shared the top 5 real reasons to love any journey on the train, but specifically to go Gold Leaf and have it all.

1. The Service

From the moment that you arrive to the train station early on your departure day, you are blown away by the incredible setting put together by the incredible staff of Rocky Mountaineer. In a bustling station, there are greetings all around you, smiles to engage you on your first day, and perfect service of drinks and snacks while you are engulfed in the sound of the piano coming from the Grand in the middle of the vast room. No matter where you look you can find a friendly staff member setting the scene for your trip to come. And it never stops. In gold, you have a personal service crew per cabin, caring for your every moment. They work from early morning to late night, waiting on your every need. Always completely engaged, the staff went above and beyond to make sure that you were comfortable, make jokes, share their knowledge and experience and spread their infectious positive energy. You will not go hungry or thirsty and you will find it hard to keep from a perma-smile while you are completely pampered for in this unsurpassed level of Gold Service.

2. The Scenery

Of course, the point of this particular adventure is to enjoy the most beautiful routes in Western Canada in a completely unique way, with a fresh perspective from all other sightseeing opportunities. Moving slowly along the tracks, you are constantly engaged the entire ride. When in Gold Service, you have panoramic dome windows wrapping completely above you, while being perched high on the top level of a bi-level car, so as to not have any obstruction to your view.

The staff point out highlights along the way, while you just relax and enjoy the show.

3. The Food

You will never go hungry or thirsty with Gold Leaf! With constant observation from your personal service crew, you can always enjoy snacks and drinks in your plush seat, but the real culinary magic happens when you head to the dining car and enjoy a three course meal on the delicious menu, for breakfast and for lunch.

With wide windows in the dining cars, you still enjoy lovely views as you roll along the tracks, and then once back in your glass dome, enjoy unlimited drinks and specialty coffees from the bar at the back of the railcar, all at your beck and call.

4. The Extras

Everyone on the train is there to relax and enjoy the fine things in life. With hotel options such as the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and the Fairmont Banff Springs, that is exactly what Gold Level guests are doing. Add in local tours, gondola rides, a walk on a glacier and a helicopter ride over the Rocky Mountains, the extras make sure that you don’t miss an opportunity for an incredible slideshow and stories galore when you get home.

5. The Unique Experience

There is not another experience like this. The finest views, the finest hotels, the finest food, unbelievable pampering and the opportunity to see the sites of BC that no one but a Rocky Mountaineer guest enjoys. With multiple routes and endless customization, there is no end to the uniquely you trip that you can make a voyage on Rocky Mountaineer!!
