Recently, well-respected industry cruise site, Cruise Critic, released its annual list of winners in numerous ocean and river cruise categories.

Voted on by the editors of the popular site, the yearly awards for the world’s top cruise lines, ships, dining and activities have been highly anticipated. Like the Academy Award for Best Film, the cruise industry’s big award is for Best New Ship, and Carnival Cruise Line is this year’s big winner.

Launched in May 2016, the cruise line’s latest ship, Carnival Vista, took home top honours. The ship’s own brewery at sea, IMAX theatre, 14 restaurants and floating waterpark were all considered standout features. For the third consecutive year, Carnival also topped Cruise Critic’s list for Best Value for Money, citing affordable fares, free activities and the large amount of included dining venues as key.

Disney Cruise Line, another perennial winner, was voted Best for Families as well as Best Dining.

Other winners in the Ocean category include Celebrity Cruises for Best Itineraries, Royal Caribbean International for Best Inside Cabins as well as Best Suites and Princess for Best Shore Excursions and Best for Romance. Norwegian Cruise Lines was given the nod for Best Entertainment and MSC Cruises for Best Nightlife. Best for Adventure went to Lindblad Expeditions.

In the luxury market, Seabourn Cruise Line was voted Best Luxury Cruise Line. Best Luxury Ship and Best Luxury Cabins went to Regent Seven Seas and their remarkable ship, Explorer. Oceania Cruises offered the Best Luxury Dining while Silversea Cruises won for Best Itineraries. Azamara Club Cruises took top prize for Best Luxury Shore Excursions.

Still scorching hot on the market, river cruising had yet another big year. AmaWaterways, and their new partnership with Adventures by Disney, took home the big prize for Best River Cruise. They also won for Best River Cruise Line for Families as well as Best for Active Cruisers. Viking River Cruises won for Best River Cruise Line Itineraries, Avalon Waterways for Best Cabins and Tauck River Cruising for Best Dining.

Best New River Cruise Ship was awarded to Crystal River Cruises and their magnificent Crystal Mozart. Best Luxury River Cruise Line for 2016 is Uniworld and Best Value for Money went to Emerald Waterways.
