Tres Carnales Taqueria was inspired by three carnales (Mexican slang for ‘homeboys’) who had spent so much time reminiscing about devouring Mexican street food along the Pacific coast of Mexico that it wasn’t long before they brought Tres Carnales Taqueria to life. Today, Tres Carnales Taqueria proudly serves mouthwatering authentic Mexican tacos with slow braised local meats and fresh produce which were featured on You Gotta Eat Here. (10119 100A Street Rice Howard Way, Edmonton, AB)

Saskatoon

Las Palapas Resort Grill serves fresh food native to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America with a new twist – nuevo tropical cuisine. (910 Victoria Ave., Saskatoon, SK)

Winnipeg

BMC Market is an authentic experience in Mexican cuisine with fresh ingredients and tortillas made onsite. (722 Osborne St., Winnipeg, MB)

Toronto

If you’re looking for Grand Electric on Queen Street, look for the line-up that extends around the corner of the block in Parkdale. This taqueria serves cheap, fresh tacos loaded with fresh ingredients and delicious toppings like fried Gulf shrimp, confit pork, and tempura cauliflower. If you weren’t already hooked with the chef and front-of-house manager’s infamous and equally successful Black Hoof, Grand Electric will surge your senses (and taste buds). (1330 Queen St. W., Toronto, ON)

La Carnita serves fresh tacos with new daily features in an atmosphere that celebrates Mexican food with fresh ingredients and culture through art. (501 College St., Toronto, ON… more locations available)

Montreal

In the heart of Montreal, Escondite Cerveceria de Barrio‘s menu of traditional and inventive Mexican fare will delight. Try the gyoza nachos, fried chicken tacos, and churros avec Nutella. (1206 Union Ave., Montreal, QC)

Halifax

Proudly serving Halifax as the only authentic home-style Mexican cuisine restaurant since 1999, Mexico Lindo‘s menu caters to the health conscious with an additional gluten-free menu. Low fat, high protein, and fresh ingredients make up most of the establishment’s dishes, which includes burritos, tacos, chilaquiles, soups, and more. (3635 Dutch Village Rd., Halifax, NS)

St. John’s

Newfoundland-Labrador boasts being the home of some of the best lobster in the country – and Quintanas and Arribas. Serving Newfie favourites including burritos, enchiladas, flautas, and tacos since 1980, this east coast hotspot is the place to be on Cinco de Mayo! (57 Rowan St, St. John’s, NL)

How to Make the Best Darn Margarita!

Heck, yes. There’s nothing like a traditional marg made to your taste in the comfort of your own home (or by someone else at an establishment). The tart twist of lime, the salt from the rim that coats the lips, the reposado tequila dangerously sweetened by light agave syrup. Enjoy this margarita recipe for your next fiesta. You deserve a drink!

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the anniversary of the David and Goliath-like victory of the Mexican army over the French in the Battle of Puebla, 1862.

About 4,000 Mexican soldiers were up against a well-equipped French army – one of the best in the world – with about 8,000 soldiers and not a single defeat for almost 50 years. France eventually withdrew from Mexico thus ending the French-Mexican War (1861-1867).

Cinco de Mayo serves as a proud reminder of Mexico’s triumph and resistance.
