Costa Rica Nightlife - Top Spots When the Sun Goes Down

Attracting sun-seekers and eco-tourists, Costa Rica nightlife may not be the first thing on visitor’s minds, but depending on where you are, you can find plenty to do when the sun sets.

If you plan on including some Latin-style revelry during your travels, here are the places you might like to check out, from bars to barrios!

San José

As the country’s largest city, San José has a well-known club scene. We also recommend two San José barrios, La California and Barrio Escalante, home to cool bars, live music venues and small clubs.

Club Vertigo

Considered the best nightclub in Central America, Vertigo has a state-of-the-art sound system and hosts international DJs that play late (or early into the morning, depending on how you look at it!)

La Concha de la Lora

A popular, multi-room bar offers different music genres, perfect if your travel companions have eclectic tastes. Uncover food and drink stalls tucked surreptitiously in an alleyway.

El Wok

House music lovers can raise the roof at this club, featuring an open-air patio providing intoxicating views of the city.

Roots Cool and Calm

This laid-back reggae bar is always fun, attracting a mix of locals and tourists in-the-know (like you!)

Tamarindo

This chilled-out surf town comes alive at night, thanks to a great food and drink scene that attracts a youthful demographic.  

Lizard Lounge

Have a bite and beverage at Lizard Lounge, then hang out for dancing. Originally located in Playas del Coco, its owners made a savvy business move to re-open in Tamarindo.

With an extensive menu, happy hour and nightly live bands or DJs. This sports bar is open throughout the day and continues the party well into the night.
