One of the biggest struggles for pet owners taking a vacation is what to do with their pets while they're gone. Will they be able to find someone to pet-sit or do they need to consider a kennel? Options to bring your pet along to hotels have historically been extremely limited to motels or had numerous restrictions usually regarding the size of the pet. But thanks to growing demand, there are a number of top quality hotels not only accommodating pets but treating them like VIPs…Very Important PETS that is!
The following hotels were highlighted on our CTV segment - Fido on Vacation: a look at pet-friendly hotels.
Rockwater Secret Cove Resort (BC's Sunshine Coast)
A 35 minute ferry from Vancouver's north shore gets you to BC's beautiful sunshine coast. Sitting oceanside near Halfmoon Bay is Rockwater Secret Cove Resort, the perfect place to bring your four-legged friend and enjoy Mother Nature at her best. The resort welcomes pets to stay in the "cabins" and they feature a 'Pet on Vacation' package for a $25 fee per pet which includes a dog tag, treats, blanket, water bowl, and sanitary kit. Partial proceeds from the fee per pet goes to the SPCA.
Willows Lodge (Woodinville, WA)
Twenty minutes north of Seattle, sits Willows Lodge, a stunning hotel evoking rustic elegance (think large log cabin with all the modern luxuries) sitting on more than 30 acres along the Sammamish River. At a cost of $35, their Very Important Pet Program (WVIP) includes dog room service menu specially prepared by Dining Dog Café, welcome card, a recent issue of CityDog Magazine, maps for local trails, food and water bowls and a large dog bed complete with nighttime turndown service! And partial proceeds of every pet fee goes to support Homeward Pet Adoption Center in Woodinville.
The Loden (Vancouver, BC)
In the heart of downtown Vancouver and just a stone's throw away from Stanley Park is one of the city's best boutique hotels, The Loden. They welcome all pets of all sizes any time of the year. They even have three different sizes of beds to best suit their "four-legged guests". The $45 fee includes use of one of these custom size pet beds, homemade biscuits, a copy of Modern Dog Magazine, sanitary kit and dog walking map. Last year, the Loden's pet-friendly status achieved new heights with their "Pampered Pooch Package" with partial proceeds going to the SPCA. They also support the SPCA's annual Paws for a Cause.
Summit Lodge & Spa (Whistler, BC)
As if you needed another reason to go to Whistler! At Summit Lodge & Spa, dogs always stay for FREE! They take VIP to a whole new level with a welcome board for pets by name, a dog bed, food bowl, a towel, and treats. The also have sock monster dolls in every room available for adoption with partial proceeds from each doll sold going to Whistler Animal Galore. Ask them about their current "SPETactular Getaway" which includes a 2 night stay, 2 hours of dog walking, and a toy.
