Nothing like some fun in the sun in the hot, hot heat of Cancun. Our Flightie Jose Merida travelled down with Air Canada Vacations and stayed at the Grand Oasis Cancun to tell us all about the hotel, the food, the fun, and the nightlife.

When I had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Oasis Cancun, the first thing I noticed was that the staff were very welcoming and the resort was immaculate - very clean and beautifully designed.

When I arrived at the resort, I was directed to the VIP lounge and politely directed to check in there.

What I had realized when I got to the VIP lounge was that my room had been upgraded to a Pyramid Oceanview room in the Pyramid building, the best room category available at the resort. The front desk told me that they realized that my birthday fell under the timeline of my stay and that they wanted to do it as a nice gesture. I was speechless and couldn't believe it. I thanked them a lot and was even more excited to start this trip!

Pyramid-class room categories at the Grand Oasis Cancun grant guests access to all of the restaurants on the property and reservations are not required for the ones you need to make reservations for (except for two of them).

Guests also have access to all 22 bars, three of which are exclusive, and guests have their own private VIP lounge.

I’m a pretty simple guy who likes to try and get involved with the local culture of the places I travel to. That is why I strongly recommend the taco stand by the pool, they are very traditional and authentic Mexican tacos that one can only have in Mexico. I also recommend the Maria Bonita and Sarape restaurants, both of which serve very delicious and authentic Mexican food. This hotel offers a large variety of choices of restaurants from different parts of the world for all tastes. Two other restaurants I’d like to highlight and recommend would be the Ibiza Restaurant (Mediterranean and fresh sushi) and the Bahia Rodizzio (an upscale and delicious steakhouse with many kinds of meat to choose from). The Bahia Rodizzio is exclusively available to guests staying at the Pyramid.

The Grand Oasis Cancun has a reputation for being the party and entertainment hotspot. It’s very popular amongst the younger crowd and party people looking to have a great time.

Day or night, the fun doesn’t stop.

The main pool bar is where most of the excitement takes place throughout the day. Here you'll have the chance to interact with and meet all kinds of amazing people from all over the world. The entertainment staff does a great job of getting people to participate in the games and activities that were organize throughout the day. The hotel also owns a decent stretch of the beach and it's surrounded by beautiful crystal-clear waters.

At the main building (the centre pyramid), when the evening hits so does the entertainment. There are so many cool shows and performances to enjoy, like the Red Circus and stories of Mayan culture. There's also an outdoor bar that opens up at night, it faces the ocean and people can mingle and enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze while having a good time and enjoying the DJ. Later on at night, guests can head to one of the nightclubs on the resort, like Coyote Loco (my personal favourite), Kinky, and Havana Nightclub. For the more adventurous, guests can hit up the countless bar and nightclub options just outside of the resort. I'd recommend The City, which is the biggest venue in Latin America), Señor Frogs, Mandala, and Coco Bongo.

I had such an amazing time here at this beautiful resort in Cancun. The staff and service were outstanding, the resort was beautiful and on the best part of the beach, and the food options were delicious. Can't go wrong, here.
