With the arrival of summer, we have to admit it's one of our favourite times of year to discover our own beautiful backyard. With so many places to see, and things to experience in North America, we've put together our Top 10 North American sights to help you plan your next trip:

1. Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA

There are two separate slot canyon sections; the Upper Antelope Canyon (referred to as The Crack) and the Lower Antelope Canyon (referred to as The Corkscrew). Located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona, these canyons are a photographer’s dream as the light reflects off the canyon walls showing beautiful colour hues in the sandstone. We recommend: The Upper Antelope Canyon tour from $35/person USD.

2. Quebec City, Canada

The Old Town in Quebec City offers an old world charm and is presently the only North American fortified city north of Mexico as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We recommend: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac from $518/night.

3. Yellowstone National Park, USA

Turning a 140 next year, this park attracts nearly four million visitors a year, mostly during the warmer months. The main attraction is Old Faithful, a cone geyser that erupts almost every 91 minutes. We recommend: 15-day escorted camping Yosemite & Yellowstone tour from $1899/person.

4. Pacific Rim National Park, British Columbia, Canada

The park, located in the southwestern coast of Vancouver Island and open from mid-March to mid-October, offers a rugged coastline and lush rainforest that is great for hiking, bird watching or during the spring, whale watching. It is also a popular area for storm watching. We recommend: Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet from $284/night.

5. Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Known world-wide, these voluminous waterfalls are a must-see. The falls straddle the border between Ontario and New York. Get up close with the Maid of the Mist, a boat cruise that takes you into the rapids below the falls and has been doing so since 1846. We recommend: Maid of the Mist for $22/person.

6. Four Corners Region, Southwest USA

Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah all share a border and you can straddle all four states at once.
