Mount Engadine Lodge near Canmore

If you and your partner’s ideal romantic getaway involves being secluded in a patch of pristine wilderness, look no further than Mount Engadine Lodge in Kananaskis Country. Located off Smith Dorrien Trail, this is the only accommodation in Spray Valley Provincial Park — with a maximum capacity of 38 guests. In other words, you’ll basically have the area’s breathtaking scenery all to yourselves.

Don’t be fooled: just because this resort is remote doesn’t mean it’s lacking in amenities! In addition to a cozy main lodge and wide range of outdoor activities, Mount Engadine offers an all-inclusive culinary program that features a two-course breakfast, a packed lunch that you can take on your mountain adventures and a three-course dinner. Want to make things even more intimate? Have a Romance Package (complete with prosecco and chocolates) delivered to your cabin.

Storm Mountain Lodge & Cabins between Banff and Lake Louise

One of the best ways to reconnect with your loved one is to disconnect from technology — and that’s exactly what you can expect to do at Storm Mountain Lodge & Cabins. Despite being only a short distance (about a 25-minute drive) from downtown Banff, there’s no cell service, Wi-Fi or televisions in sight. The traditional log cabins aren’t even equipped with a kitchen! You really only have one thing to do at this hidden-gem property and that’s relax. Snuggle up in front of the wood-burning fireplace, go for a soak in the clawfoot tub and enjoy intimate dinners in the main lodge dining room.

Or, if you’re not the type of couple that can do nothing on vacation, head on over to the nearby Johnston Canyon to explore a magical winter wonderland filled with frozen waterfalls, icicles and snow-dusted trees.

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper

Especially for super-active couples, a mountain retreat wouldn’t be complete without hitting the slopes. And Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge sets you up great for doing just that — Marmot Basin, Jasper’s main ski hill, is less than an hour away!

In addition to being in such close proximity to the mountains, the Fairmont also provides you with plenty of après-ski experiences. Soothe your aching muscles with a massage or a dip in the heated outdoor pool, grab a bite to eat and a cocktail at one of the resort’s five on-site restaurants, or kick back in your beautiful guest room (or heritage cabin, if you’re so inclined).

Pro tip: Book the Romance package for a few added comforts, including a welcome bottle of bubbly, a luxe king bed, daily breakfast and late check-out.

Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton

The Prince of Wales Hotel, nestled within Waterton Lakes National Park, has got it all: stunning views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, elegant-yet-rustic rooms and suites, and easy access to some amazing outdoor adventures. Boasting everything from hiking trails to cross-country skiing routes and natural ice-skating rinks, this is a thrilling mountain playground no matter what time of year you visit (though fall and winter are obviously best if you want to cozy up with your significant other).

Of course, you don’t need to spend every minute of your romantic getaway outside! The Royal Stalwart Dining Room has floor-to-ceiling windows that allow you to look out over the Waterton Lakes — we recommend stopping in between 11am–3:30pm for a traditional Afternoon Tea or after dinner so you can take in the spectacular sunset.

Post Hotel & Spa in Lake Louise

Built in 1942, the Post Hotel & Spa has a ton of vintage alpine charm. The grounds are peppered with wintry pine trees, the lounge is warmed up by a roaring fireplace, and every room, suite and cabin features rustic wood details.

Whether you reserve a one-bed Superior room in the main lodge or one of the riverfront cabins is entirely up to you — there’s really no bad choice here! You’ll probably spend a lot of time outdoors anyway… the Post Hotel & Spa is a great base from which you can go ice skating on the frozen Lake Louise, embark on a horse-drawn sleigh ride or explore Banff National Park on an exhilarating snowmobile excursion.

Emerald Lake Lodge near Field

One of the signs of a romantic mountain lodge is it’s remoteness and its rustic-ness, and Emerald Lake Lodge exceeds in both those categories. Established in 1902 and reopened as a resort in 1986, it’s built with hand-hewn timber and is warmed up by massive stone fireplaces (aka it’s got heaps of historic character).

As for the remote side of things…

The lodge is located on a secluded island in Yoho National Park and, since the owners strive to provide guests with a peaceful and relaxing experience, there are no cars allowed on the property. You’ll need to park a bit down the road and then call for a shuttle to take you the rest of the way. It sounds like a lot of work, but we promise it’s not. Besides, Emerald Lake Lodge’s scenic views and outstanding hospitality are totally worth it.

P.S. This is an idyllic spot for proposals and weddings. Just stating the obvious in case you and your sweetheart are approaching either of those milestone moments.

Baker Creek by Basecamp in Lake Louise

So far, we’ve been inspiring you to book a fall or winter trip… but it should be said that these properties are worth visiting year-round. Take Baker Creek by Basecamp, for example. Situated in Banff National Park, the great outdoors beckon in every season. And the resort has many amenities that help you make the most of it.

In addition to a convenient shuttle service that takes guests to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake (where long walks, wildlife watching and canoeing are highly encouraged), Baker Creek boasts fire pits, badminton and other outdoor games, and complimentary bike rentals. All to say, this is an ideal location for those who want to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Why not invite your coupled-up friends and make a double date out of it?

Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Autograph Collection in Kananaskis Village

When you go on a romantic getaway with your boo, the last thing you want to do is think about all the responsibilities you left at home… but that won’t be a problem at this resort in Kananaskis Country.

One of the best things about the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Autograph Collection is that it’s home to the Kananaskis Nordic Spa — a wellness sanctuary where you and your partner can (literally) wash your worries away together. This 50,000-square-foot space is complete with five outdoor pools, five steam and sauna cabins, an exfoliation cabin and fireside lounges for the ultimate hydrotherapy circuit. Surrounded by alpine forest and rugged mountains, the breathtaking views will also help you relax.

Pro tip: You don’t have to stay at the hotel to use the spa facilities (aka this is the perfect day-trip activity if you’re in the area).

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Lake Louise

Speaking of hydrotherapy! The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise just recently opened its own thermal bathing experience and, no surprise, it’s beautiful. Inspired by nature, BASIN Glacial Waters is the perfect place to relax with your significant other. Hop from hot tub to cold pool to Finnish sauna together or embark on your own personal journeys; there are five curated “Trails” to choose from.

Not into wellness? No problem. Taking in the lake views from your luxurious guest room is just as calming — especially if the snow is falling outside. If you get the chance, we suggest treating yourself to the Bed & Breakfast package (available on select dates only) so that you can indulge in a delicious meal and a slow morning.

Pyramid Lake Lodge in Jasper

If the way to your heart is through your stomach, check in to Jasper’s Pyramid Lake Lodge. Situated near the base of Pyramid Mountain on the shores of — you guessed it — Pyramid Lake, this resort has a distinctly alpine flavour (literally).

The menu at its signature Aalto restaurant is inspired by the surrounding peaks, waters and forests so expect dishes featuring seafood, bison, wild mushrooms, beets, berries and other local ingredients. Breakfast and dinner are equally delectable, and there’s also the option for you to treat the apple of your eye to a multi-course gourmet meal. From the amuse bouche to the dessert, each dish will delight your palette and give you a true taste of the Canadian Rockies.
