With the latest federal government advisories, many travellers are trying to change or cancel their travel bookings, all at the same time, leading to longer than normal wait times on the phone. If your travel plans are now on hold and you need to cancel your trip, use these tips to make the process smoother and faster.
Cancel your trip through the airline or tour operator’s trip manager.
With longer than usual hold times, the quickest way to change or cancel your travel plans is by accessing your booking through your airline/tour operator’s app or website. Fees may be associated or temporarily waived as a response to COVID-19, so be sure to understand the full terms and conditions of making changes or cancellations to your booking.

Contact Your Expert Traveller Directly
As straightforward as it seems, airlines, cruise lines, and tour operators all actually have varying terms and conditions for making changes and cancellations, something your Expert can help you understand.
Your Expert is your best resource. With direct connections to airlines and tour operators, your Expert can spare you from being on hold for hours at a time, provide you with new options, and offer travel advice to help you choose.
So, before you dial Flight Centre’s 24/7 Customer Care line, try contacting your original Expert or Business Travel Manager directly, via email or phone. As of March 17th, 2020, Flight Centre local shops are temporarily closing their doors to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.
If the circumstances can change, wait until you’re closer to your travel dates to cancel your booking.
Waiting until you’re within 72 hours of your travel plans can help save you from waiting for hours on phone queues. Flight Centre Travel Group, as well as many of our partners, are currently addressing your inquiries by departure date to ensure faster response times for travellers with urgent needs.
If you’re cancelling your trip, you may not receive a full refund.
Depending on your circumstances and when you begin the cancellation process, you may only receive a portion of the amount you paid. Many of Flight Centre Travel Group’s travel partners are volunteering to provide COVID-19 related refunds in the form of future travel credits, as a temporary measure. In some cases, travellers may not be eligible to receive any refund.
Having travel insurance will greatly increase your chances of getting back 100% of what you paid and recuperate any losses, especially “Cancel For Any Reason” policies. Check out how to make an insurance claim here.
Expert Tip: Select French while calling in and then be transferred to an English speaking rep.
We’re not saying this always works, but it’s worth a shot. The reduced wait time can really pay off!
