Frequently asked questions

It certainly is. In fact, Merida is not just a walkable city, it's a stroll through history. With its mesmerising colonial architecture and vibrant street life, taking a leisurely stroll in Merida is like stepping back in time while enjoying the modern-day delights of the Yucatan.

What’s not to love? Merida is a captivating city with a rich colonial history, stunning architecture, delicious food and a vibrant cultural scene. Whether you're looking to relax in a hammock or dance the night away, Merida is the perfect destination for a fun-filled and unforgettable vacay.

While there’s certainly benefits to Merida in any season, December is the most popular month for tourism, so expect crowds! Late October to March is ideal as the humidity drops from May’s peak. From June to September is the wet season, but it usually passes fairly quickly.

Explore the city's historic downtown and marvel at the colonial architecture, take a dip in a cenote, enjoy mouth-watering Yucatecan cuisine at a food market, treat yourself to a little retail therapy at one of Merida's colourful shopping districts, meander around museums, hang with the flamingos at the Celestun Wildlife Refuge, sip mojitos, whatever you do, be sure to leave enough time for Chichen Itza, you won’t regret it!

Pack your appetite for delicious food! Oh, and comfortable shoes for exploring the city's charming streets, sunscreen for the Yucatan sun and a camera to capture all the colourful sights. Pack light, with Merida's delightfully warm climate, you'll be living in your swimsuit and a sundress or shorts!

It might be hard to pronounce but Dzibilchaltun is the longest-serving Mayan city dating back to 1500 BC, so history buffs will be in their happy place exploring the ruins. If you’re up for a daytrip, Mayapan is one of the few sites you can climb to the top of the pyramid, while Uxmal is perhaps one of the most photogenic. Chichen Itza should be at the top of everyone’s Mexican bucket list – it’s one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
