Frequently asked questions

In addition to the regular socks and jocks packing list, if you’re heading to Coromandel, be sure to throw in a swimsuit, some hiking boots and a camera. Oh, and some bug spray may also come in handy if you’re planning on exploring the lush forests.

There’s a very good reason why The Coromandel is one of New Zealand’s most popular vacation destinations! Renowned for its pristine beaches, dreamy forests and laid-back vibe, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. The Coromandel Peninsula is a must for visitors to explore and relax, while Cathedral Cove is an iconic beach with a stunning natural archway. Take a walk through the forest to get to the beach and enjoy a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Prefer things a little warmer? Hot Water Beach is a popular pit-stop for visitors to dig their own personal hot pool in the sand and soak in the natural hot springs. Whangamata is a laid-back coastal town to enjoy a spot of fishing, surfing or simply relaxing on the beach. If that all sounds a little bit too relaxed for you, lace up your sneakers and tackle Pinnacles Walk, a beautiful and challenging hiking trail that rewards you with stunning views of the Coromandel ranges. Last, but certainly not least, Coromandel Town is a charming historic town to learn about the history of the region and enjoy some delicious food and wine, browse art galleries and boutique shops.

This stunning region of New Zealand is beautiful all year round, with each season offering its own unique charm and experiences. If you are yearning for sun-drenched days by the beach, the summer months (December to February) will deliver in droves. Autumn (March to May) is a quieter time to visit, with cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. Winter (June to August) brings cooler temperatures, but also the chance to enjoy cosy nights by the fire, hot springs and partake in winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding at nearby Mt. Ruapehu. Spring (September to November) is a great time to visit for nature lovers, with flowers blooming and wildlife emerging from hibernation.

Spend your days beach hopping, hike, bike, marvel at 800-year-old trees in the Kauri Forest, go fishing, take a dip in the hot springs, eat, drink, eat some more, explore, learn to surf or do nothing at all, a Coromandel vacation is anything you want it to be.
